Owner description: NMAC is the only full-time, year-round, independent institution devoted to the display, preservation and study of (antique) American woven coverlets. The Museum is open seven days a week. Each visitor is given a personal tour.Currently, the (400-plus) collection includes coverlets made between 1771 and 1889. Exhibitions change periodically. Generally there are about 50 coverlets on display along with "period" beds and bedding, and spinning and weaving equipment including looms and a (rare) Jacquard head. We are located in a former Common School building (dating to 1859) in the historic district of downtown Bedford, PA.

“Good Historical Stop”
Reviewed December 20, 2012

Read about the Coverlet Museum online and were visiting the Bedford area, so we decided to stop. We weren't sure what to expect, but the tour was very interesting and since we were the only people there at that time, we had a very pleasant one-on-one guided tour. They also sell coverlets and table runners at the Museum shop. I bought a table runner and it has held up very well. Will definitely go back again in a year or two to see any updates to the exhibits.

“A neat little museum”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

Have visited the neat little museum a number of times. We have discovered the interesting story of woven coverlets in American history. The museum is run by a couple with a great passion for the subject and that labor of love feeling comes across as they explain the history the coverlets. A nice collection of coverlets on display along with books and gifts. Great stop for those interested in history and fabric arts. Small museums run by people with a passion for the subject are a wonderful part of the American scene.

Just off the PA Turnpike in Bedford. The former Common School building houses the coverlet museum on beautiful grounds with plenty of free parking. Extensive displays of coverlets, looms and other fiber-related tools such as spinning wheels. Tours are lead by knowledgeable staff who have a passion for the museum. The gift shop has reproduction patterns printed on cotton and canvas fabrics as well as books, hand-woven items and other related keepsakes.

“Beyond Beautiful”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

You won't believe how much history is woven into these coverlets. You can discover the story of our country by understanding what people chose to decorate their homes with. You will be surprised by how beautiful and different coverlets can be.
