“Great atmosphere and food”
Reviewed November 8, 2011

We had a wonderful meal here. Loved the historic atmosphere and the food was very tasty. I had the lobster ravioli which was plate-licking good. The store next door had cute arts and crafts items and they were open until 9pm - bonus!

“Quaint Historic Restaurant”
Reviewed October 31, 2011

We ate here after reading TA reviews and were not dissappointed. The food was delicious and the service very good. We ate lunch here so can only comment on soups, sandwiches and salads but everything we ordered was delicious.

“One of the Best in the Laurel Highlands!!”
Reviewed October 13, 2011

Jean Bonnet Tavern is one of our favorite restaurants in South Western Pennsylvania. We usually visit in the Autumn due to the beautiful Fall foliage in the Laurel Highlands, but dining here any time of the year would be a memorable occasion. It is located right outside of the town of Bedford, PA where Routes 30 and 31 intersect.

Food – We have never had a bad meal here. On 10/8/2011, my wife ordered the Tavern Onion Soup (one of Jean Bonnet’s Specialties) and the Mandarin Chicken Salad, my mother-in law ordered the Apple Jack Chicken (Seasonal Special), and I ordered the Corned Beef Reuben (which I swear they use at least a pound of meat to make this sandwich). In the past, we have also had Steaks (always cooked to perfection), Burgers, and the Blueberry Shrimp Salad (Seasonal/Summer, but wished that they served it Year round). Appetizers are also delicious. Desserts are really exceptional, especially the Oatmeal Pie (similar to Pecan Pie but with Oatmeal - minus the Pecans, of course). The Peanut Butter Pie and Pecan Pie are also top-notch.

Beer/Alcohol – Jean Bonnet has a wide variety of beers on tap, including their own House brew, Dogfish Ale, Lancaster Brewing Co., Weyerbacher, McSorley’s, Original Sin Cider, and many of the standards (Coors, Miller, and Yuengling). We’ve never had a mixed drink, but the selection seems to vary by the Season.

Dining – Jean Bonnet has three areas where one can dine: Downstairs, the Bar Area, and the Deck/Patio. Downstairs is for the history lovers and for those who want a fancier dining experience. Many of the tables look as if they are from the Colonial Period. The stone walls and heavy wooden beams could remind one of what the area may have felt like in the late 1700’s. The Bar area is modern and spacious. The Deck are has a wonderful view of the Laurel Highlands. The Patio section is decorative with a stone floor and black wrought iron fence work.

Overall – Jean Bonnet Tavern is a unique and historical dining experience with top notch food. Oh, and for those paranormal fans….there are supposedly ghosts that haunt the Tavern (but we’ve never encountered any!).

“Wonderful experience”
Reviewed October 5, 2011

My family and I went to the Jean Bonnet to celebrate my wife's birthday last month. The weather was nice ,so we were able to sit out on the deck. The atmosphere was perfect. It was relaxed and peaceful. Ethan was an excellent server. He was there when you needed him, but allowed us the space to share this family time together.

The food and drinks were good, something to please everyone. But the one thing we all agree on is that the oatmeal pie is a little slice of heaven. Melt in your mouth and sweet tooth satisfying for sure. And for some reason, with the word oatmeal in the name, it just seemed almost good for you, instead of the perfect dessert.

Thanks to all at the Jean Bonnet.

“The best comfort food and atmosphere”
Reviewed October 3, 2011

We like to stop here when we are nearby during travel trips. It is ALWAYS good food, service and I love the tavern atmosphere. There is even the little gift shop. They have some unique items. A must - the oatmeal pie! Yum!
