The Beachcomber Cottages

We stayed in the SeaRose cottage and found it to be very clean and comfortable. Loved the full kitchen and all the extras. Short walk to great beaches. Wi-Fi & HBO were great bonuses. Ty & Ginger (the managers) were so good to us and even helped us when our car broke down. We look forward to another stay there soon! Diane & Michael

Right at the ocean; awesome access and beach experiences. Cozy, rustic, clean, comfortable and well equiped. Very friendly and helpful staff. Convenient to area exploration. 8-person cottage could sleep 8 well, but the bathroom is tiny and the living space would be tight when awake. For fewer, excellent place to watch the tide come and go.

This was a wonderful place to sit and watch the ocean, since the weather was too stormy to go outside. The rooms were very clean and the management was friendly and helpful

The Beachcomber Cottages is a gem on the Oregon Coast. Absolutley gorgeous views of the ocean which is outside your window. The ocean is right outside your door, with great access to the beach, with it's great tidal pools to explore. The ocean is just a few easy steps out your door, just awesome.

The room was clean in every way and was very comfortable and cozy. It's just the kind of place you want to stay to get the full ocean experience. Plus the rooms have WiFi and DVD players and lots of DVD's to rent if you want that extra access. The kitchen was well-stocked with most cookware and dinnerware available to you. It's located in a great spot just out of Yachats and Lincoln City is very close. Plus there are tons of places to visit in between for hiking and exploring.

Our whole experience there was wonderful and memorable. I truly can't wait to go back!!!

I was a little scared reading the reviews of this property, but it turned out to be a very nice stay. The positives are that it the cottages have direct access to the Oregon Coast - no roads to cross, you just walk through a little boggy area and then down a cute little staircaise to the beach. The beach has wonderful tidepools, driftwood, caves and places to build beach bonfires. The cottages themselves (we stayed in the Driftwood cottage) have a lot of room and were clean. The beds were extremely comfortable (which I really wasn't expecting for a budget property) and the bedding smelled just wonderful. The kitchen was fully equipped and had everything we needed. They also had a television and a DVR player. The property managers are a little on the shy side - not all full of smiles or needless chatter - but I like that. They were always responsive if we needed something and even though we broke a glass while we were there, they were completely cool about it.

The downsides are few in my opinion. The cottages are older, so if you're looking for someplace swanky, you should probably go up the road. The cottages are also just off of the coast highway, so that's not the most picturesque setting, but it's still not really a problem. Yachats is a cute town and is about a mile or two up the road. Dinner at the Drift Inn was good. Also, the Cape Perpetua natural area is very closeby the Cottages and is very beautiful. We had a nice hike there with our three children.

Overall, I would definitely return to the Beachcomber Cottages. For the price it was just perfect.

We have stayed on the Oregon coast many times over the years, but this time we wanted to hang out for a while. A cottage at the Beachcomber was our choice for the coldest two weeks in January and we loved every minute. We stayed in the northernmost unit which has an awesome view of the coast. The beach in front is nice with about a mile of sandy walking and nice rock hunting. If you want longer walks, the Washburne State Park in a couple miles south and the Governor Patterson State Park north of Yachats are both excellent. This place is pretty isolated and quiet. The views of several night's worth of full moons over the surf was unbelievable.

We looked at the adjacent unit first and selected this one based on a slightly better view of the ocean. Both units were spotlessly clean, fresh smelling and very rustic. Great TV with DVD,VCR and a couple hundred channels are there if you want, but the bandwidth here is great! The kitchen worked very well for us with its full size fridge, range and microwave. Plenty of fresh towels, clean linen and lots of dishes. The beds were comfortable - we slept great with the constant sound of the ocean.

Our hosts (Ginger and Ty) were super accommodating, helpful and just plain nice. There's a great selection of DVDs to check out if you need a break from the ocean. And yes, one will probably want to eat while here. There are good grocery stores nearby, but here's a couple thoughts: for coffee and treats, the Green Salmon in Yachats is one of the best on the coast, but the Sea Dog in Waldport, the coffee shop/gallery just across the street from Mo's in Florence, and the Coffee House in the old bay area of Newport work well. There are many more. For real food, the Drift Inn in Yachats has the best seafood chowder on the coast. We've applied the scientific method to this determination trying dozens of other places. The second best was at the Saffron Salmon in Newport, but eating there will lighten your pocket book noticeably.

Other places on the coast we've stayed and liked in this vein are the Wayside just north of Yachats and the Cape Cod Cottages farther to the north. All are affordable, rustic and have net access. We pick the Beachcomber as our favorite.

Jerry

If you want a swanky joint with fireplace, hot tub, big beds and fluffy pillows then this place is not for you. Pay four times the price and stay up the coast. However if you are a family or single or couple on a budget who like to explore the coast and do some hiking then pack an extra sweater and get thee here. What makes this place exceptional is location location location. I stayed a week using it as a base camp to explore points south. The Dunes are within easy reach and you can even make it as far as Gold Beach and back in a day trip. But you may never want to leave your cottage as the view of the beach and ocean is among the best on the central and south coast. Its hard to leave these cozy huts when the ocean is pounding at the foot of your bed. And within a 75 yard walk. A short drive north and you are at one of the most dramatic parts of the central coast. Cape Perpetua which has an excellent visitors centre. You must go to the top of the cape hiking if you want the exercise or driving if you want to cheat where you can see for miles and miles and miles from what is the highest point of the Oregon Coast. There is a good grocery store in nearby Yachats and also one in Waldport where you can stock up for the well equipped kitchens. Everything but the food is ready for you to use. The cottages are clean and isolated. Although in the summer it will likely be busier with an RV park next door. Ginger and Harry are on hand to meet your every need. Otherwise they will not bother you and leave you in peace.
