The beaches are beautiful sandstone and reveal many layers of colorful history. The flat, soft sand is comfortable to walkon.

Big waves, rocky coastline, forested hillsides, life at a slower pace, awesome winter storms, what's not to like?

If you are visiting in Yachats, take the time to see the memorial to Jack Harnsongkram and Conner Ausland, two teens whose lives were cut short by a sneaker wave. You can find it by walking the 804 trail between the Overleaf Lodge & the Adobe resort. The sculpture takes the form of basalt columns topped by rolling stainless steel waves. I have also attached a photo of the original makeshift memorial which was placed there immediately after the two young teens lost their lives during a school outing. I enjoy walking on the basalt rocks near the Overleaf especially in rough weather and late at night. That will never change. But, I am more careful now, and while I worship the beauty of the Yachats coastline, I am ever more mindful never to turn your back to the power of the sea.

A rugged, beautiful coastline with dramatic surf, sandy beaches nearby, a wilderness feel just off the highway.
