“"Under New Management"”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2012

This is my family's 12th spring break at this resort, and this is the first time we have come away feeling a little dissappointed. There were no activites (crafts, games, movies) for the kids. There were no activities (casino, comedy or music in the lounge) for the adults. The prices for EVERYTHING have increased and the services have decreased. Pool towels for guests are now $2 ... each. Our room price was twice what we paid the year before. The lodge casino has moved, along with the snack bar.
The staff was as friendly ever, but it seemed they were a little embarassed about the lack of services. "We are under new management," was the standard reply to our concerns about the dissappointing changes.
We will be watching closely to see if New Management finds a way to operate this resort in a way that maximizes their budget without breaking mine. Till then we, regrettably, will stay away.

I took my boyfriend away for one night at kah nee tah. Since this was a special occasion I made sure all the arrangements were made.

If you have a pet, you must stay down at the village rooms which are about half a mile from the actual resort. not close enough to walk. Also the casino is not at the resort. Down at the village, the pool was closed, the coke machine was broken, and the ice machine didnt work. Not impressed with the village whatsoever for a romantic night but at least it had a big balcony for the pup.

Food was amazing and the service was good. Wuld choose again for pet friendliness but not much else.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the village in winter.

Had a really wonderful weekend getaway at the resort. The food in The Chinook Room was WONDERFUL. The service was amazing!!! The only negative we noticed was the service in the lounge... it was REALLY BAD. We tried twice, different people working, and the second time was worse than the first. We wouldn't go back in there for a cocktail, drink in your room. The casino is small but fun. Rooms are old but clean and we like that they all have balconies. Wonderful friendly people everywhere except the lounge.

Room Tip: All the room have basically the same view.

I stayed and enjoyed it. People have to realize the location and to expect bugs around the High Desert. Only problem were guest that threw hissy fits at checkout about little stuff that dont make any sense. I would recommend this place to everyone. (P.s. just not to yuppy's)

My wife and I like to celebrate her birthday at this resort. We love the views of the desert and the aroma of Sage and Juniper.

If you are looking for a fancy "Bellagio" type experience, look elsewhere. This is a resort 12 miles off the highway, with no other services nearby.

Activities include tennis, golf, swimming, horseback riding, spa services, and gambling at the casino. My favorite is one not featured: I like to hike the trails into the desert and up to the rim rock. The views are even better from the top (see photo). Ask at the desk for a map of the trails, and consider taking water with you.

Every room has a view and a balcony. Some rooms only have showers, so inquire before booking if a tub is important to you.

The Chinook Room has moderately priced meals and a wonderful view. I recommend the Indian Fry Bread where it be for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The Juniper Room is open for dining during the busy times, The prices are much higher and there is no view. It has not been open while we were there, so we have not tried it.

We have been there three times and plan to return next September. We recommend this resort to others.

This was the first time that 6 out of the 8 of our group of adults had been to Kah-Nee-Ta and we all agreed that we should make it an annual trip and stay two nights instead of just one. At only a little under two hours from Portland/Vancouver it was close enough for an overnight. The best part was when it was raining and overcast back home, it was 81 degrees and beautiful by the pool at the hotel.

The drive over is pretty but make sure to watch out for wild horses and stray cows on the sides and crossing the roadway.

The hotel is slightly dated but it fits in well with the landscape. We really enjoyed our room on the top floor. It had a great balcony with chairs and a table with a beautiful view. There was even a wild horse that was outside our room one evening. Our room had a mini-fridge, decent and clean bathroom, bathrobes and a large screen dvd tv with a dvd player. Our friends on the east wing had a little longer hike to the room, a lamp that didn't work between the beds, a tiny tv in a cabinet. We had another person in our party check out their room, didn't like it and requested a change. They got a mini-suite for the same price and it was huge with two decks and a wrap around couch. We were able to check in at 10am and I suppose if you get there early enough and they are not booked you can have your choice. We were also able to request a late checkout to 1230 which was nice.
The guys in our group went golfing and had fun even though the course wasn't the best-kept. The girls went to the cute giftshop, had snacks in the Appolsa lounge and went to the casino. The casino has a non smoking upstairs and smoking downstairs. NOTE: The casino will be moving about 12 miles away to a new facility in January 2012. No alcohol is allowed which seemed wierd at first but ended up being nice. We had dinner in the Juniper room. Service was a little slow but our waiter Sam was great, he had been there for over 17 years and was very pleasant. The prices were what you'd expect, decent wine menu and nobody really complained about the food. Mine wasn't amazing, but decent.
We didn't go to the pool at the Village, its' a ways from the lodge, you'd likely have to drive to get there. The pool at the lodge was great and warm with a pretty waterfall. You can bring drinks in plastic cups out to the pool and it's right off the lounge. The deep end is deep if you have little children. The hot tub is set apart and accessible through the work out room. It was small. We felt cramped with 6 but clean.
We went dancing at the lounge at night, the cover band was lots of fun.
Overall, a really nice trip with something for everyone. Pros: Loved the Sun, the pool, the gift shop, casino and the view. Cons: Could be a little cleaner, better menu in the lounge

Room Tip: East wing is far from check in. The housekeeping suggested requesting anything with "01"...

I took the family there on our last weekend of summer. We stayed at the Village (by the pool not casino). Loved a lot of things about the resort.

Pros:
Lots of activities for the kids
Safe
Clean - friendly made service
Horseback riding was very professional, safe and humorous.
great shttle service to and from the different lodges.
Pool toys allowed - however if you go on a holiday weekend the locals dominate and it is so crowded you may not have space.

Cons:
the restaurants in the main lodge was horrible food and poor service.... there are no other options unless you go into Madras (I recommend ginos pizza).
unskilled life gaurds - after going down the slide 10+ times with a lifevest they told my 5 year old to remove her lifevest and sent her down the slide... thank goodness mama was at the bottom waiting. Ends up the blue slide is ok for life vest but the purple is not.
nickle and dime ya - although you may get pool access you pay $4 additional per person to utilize the slide. It adds up
Never could get into arcade
If you go on a holiday weekend - go to pool early and claim a chair... when the locals start ariving you will be lucky to find standing room.
No food or drink in pool area - nothing but a plastic water bottle.

Room Tip: either the village or lodge is great... the lodge serves beer at the pool but no slide and the villa...
