It's been three years since my last review, and we're still eating here... but not as much. There are two reasons for this.

They remodeled the restaurant earlier this year and took out the dividing wall between the separate "garden" dining room and the bar area. It's now all open. They added a half dozen video poker machines in a little room at the back of the dining area, and took out several booths.

Although we have nothing against eating in a microbrew tavern (and often do), the bar section of the Salty Dawg is, well, to be honest, just a small town "dive" bar. The patrons can get rowdy and sometimes crude whilst watching sports on the TV.

By placing the video poker machines in the dining section, there are now people traipsing back and forth right between tables, usually carrying a drink or a beer. The combination of being open to the bar and the video poker rather spoils this place for "family" dining.

The other problem is an employee. I won't mention her name, but she is consistently rude to customers, both locals and tourists. We know her schedule and make sure she isn't working before we come here to eat. The management has been told about her many times by locals -- but this person still works here! Go figure.

Other than that, the food is still quite good.

Rude and discourteous. Food is ok but not worth the treatment from the staff. We have been visiting Waldport every year for the past ten years. We always try this place when we come back just in case things have gotten better. Were done, won't go back.

Food was fine, but looks like mainly a drinking establishment for locals

I have eaten here at least once a year for several years as I visit town. The food is always good (except for the fake crab on a crab louie which we were told its hard to get crab at the coast). But the waitress staff are alwayd rude. We watched her chase two sets of customers off stating in a rude voice, 'no lunch served until noon, but you can go somehwere else'. They have usually made my family feel as if we are inconvienencing them by stopping there to eat. I was with several groups lasttime and they were rude to all of us. Even the children noticed their rudeness. The staff needs to remember, us tourists are supporting their income. The owner shoud consider a staff change. There will eventually be more choices to eat in town and people will do just that, go elswhere.

My wife and I just had dinner, both ordered New York steak medium rare with a baked potato; it came with green beans with bacon and mushrooms, and soup or salad. My wife chose the beef barley soup - excellent she says, I had a salad with very good blue cheese dressing. The steaks were cooked perfectly. The service by Chris, the waitress, was prompt and courteous. There was no wine list, but four house wines were availabe by the glass or carafe. We chose a cabernet sauvignon, which was acceptable. Steak, chicken and seafood dinner prices ranged from about $9 to $19, ours was $15 per person. There is a whole page of Mexican dishes, which we did not check. The dining area, which is separate from the bar and tavern, has 8 tables, each seating up to 4 persons. Two of the tables are at windows overlooking Alsea Bay if not blocked by parked cars. The decor is simple but tasteful.
