This past Mother's Day, we decided to skip the madding crowd of brunch options and have a late afternoon meal instead. Riverview was one of several options, but since it was closest fopr everyone involved, it won out.
First, the parking lot wasn't full and second, the eight of us were seated adjacent to the guest musicians who accompanied our meal with piano and bass cello at a very reasonable level and kindly honored our requests for favorite tunes. Normally, I would cringe at sitting so near a band or even a duet of any sort, but this duo enhanced the evening very well.
The wait staff were still recovering from a large brunch crowd, so some oversights were experienced with place settings, but our server, Cassie, was very good spirited and quite attentive. Our eventual choices were prime rib (with rissoto, by request), Thai peanut prawns and rice, and another fish based dish I can't recall.
In any case, the prime rib was cooked to perfection, the risotto was very close to perfection and seasoned to match the beef-eater palate. Things got busy rather quickly, as more guests began to fill every available table, but there was no negative effect upon the ambiance or the service. One quibble was the mandatory 20% gratuity included on the check. I normally tip this amount for exceptional service, but was a bit surprised that a group of eight met the standard for this size of tip. Fortunately, Cassie and the bussers, as well as the manager that evening, all more than earned this level of gratuity. I'm not sure that this is a good policy, in general, but with so many people choosing these days to skimp on this, I can understand the owner/managers wanting to look out for their staff.
Overall a very enjoyable meal in a very relaxing venue. Highly recommended for those special outings.
