Did not have time to hike up the trail but the views from the trailhead area were lovely, plenty of water flowing over the rocks and from high above - trees obstructed some of the view from below.

You can see these falls from the roadside, but it is worth the 0.2mi hike to the bridge which crosses them. Only then can you appreciate their magnificence. We are "almost octogenarians" and we climbed slowly but steadily, in the rain, on the paved path through the forest. It is worth taking your time to appreciate the trees and the mossy, "rainforest" undergrowth. Once on the bridge the true power of these spectacular falls becomes apparent. If you don't want a long hike back to the parking lot, go back down the way you came up. You won't be sorry you took the time and made the effort.

Loved the day-hike. The "less traveled" of the falls. Be warned...it's a bit of rise in elevation quite quickly! But so worth all the falls and the view!! We started at Wahkeena and did the loop to Multnomah (about 6.3 miles or so). Would recommend, but maybe not for young children...

You can view this waterfall directly from the parking lot, which we did on the first day of our Oregon vacation. However, it was so breathtaking that we decided to do the short 0.3 mile hike to the top of the falls the next day. The hike through the forest was interesting with all of the moss and ferns and large trees. The Pacific Northwest is so beautiful and vastly different from the forests on the Atlantic coast. We saw some cute little lizards at the top of the falls and my husband stood so close to the falls that he got drenched. Not that it mattered because were were already wet from the knees down. It rained all day, but we didn't let this bother us. We had raincoats on, but it was raining so much that the rain just poured from the raincoats onto our pants. We also wore waterproof boots while hiking throughout our trip, which is absolutely essential if you want to stay comfortable. Don't pass up the hike to the top of the waterfall as you get a vastly different perspective from the top.

We did not hike up to the falls as we had viewed all of the other falls along Historic 30. But i did take a few shot of the falls from the roadway. I also walked down to the stream bed to shoot a few of the moss covered rocks entering the bridge. It is, again, another piece to the intricately woven fabric of natures handiwork. I would ask at the Vista House what the trail is like and what you need to be prepared for to reach these falls....you may have budget your time based on the number of falls you wish to see.
