We made a trip to Washington state and Portland and Columbia river gorge and the waterfalls were one of the many things that remained in our memory forever. However this place will also be remembered by us for wrong reasons. Yes this is the only place of the whole 10 days trip we faced issues. Vandalism. Some desperado tried to break into my car in daylight while i was hiking and enjoying the waterfall scenery. We were shattered. Luckily for us nothing precious was stolen. I still had to replace the side door glass which was way expensive not to forget the time spent fixing and thinking about it. This happened at Latourell Falls on a weekday. May be it was an evil eye on an otherwise magnificent trip. So beware if you are visiting on a weekday when there is not much traffic.
All the waterfalls we visited Horsetail falls, Multnomah Falls, Wahkeena Falls, Bridalveil falls, Latourell Falls were awe inspiring. Some required strenuous hiking though but the whole experience was mind blowing. Multnomah was crowded as always. Latourel was where we found solitude in a romantic way but ironically the bad incident left a sour taste afterwards. We have visited so many attractions all over US with not a single incident and this was the first.

Almost all "best drives" books list this drive out of Portland, starting in Troutdale, and with good reason. Seeing the View House and the waterfalls along the Oregon side of the Columbia are sights not to be missed.

We have visited the Columbia Gorge and waterfalls several time. Always impressive, although in late spring the waterfalls are bigger and more impressive than in summer or fall. But we cannot do without a visit when we are in the Portland area. It's alway a special experience!

Our hotel manager suggested this route, as we were headed from Troutdale to the Sternwheeler trip on the Columbia River. Gorgeous scenery abounded at every turn in the road, including overlooks, streams, and several waterfalls, including the famed Multnomah Falls. Hiking opportunities abound! There are picnic areas. We wish we could be here when the fall colors are bountiful. Plan for plenty of photo ops!

This drive is not to be missed. It is truely one of the most beautiful scenic drives a traveller can do. Get your camera on the ready. If you are travelling in this area have a look at the Oregon Tourism website, scenic drives, it describes it well and the pictures depict the true beauty of the area.
