“Great Place..book ahead.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2014

I stumbled on this place years ago... drove up, got a room. No more. You have to book well in advance. But mano mano mano re-bob. It's worth it. Everybody should stay here once. ( ok almost everybody... sorry you had a bad time noisy girl [Nancy L])-- Every inch of the place has something to look at. Inside and out. Top to bottom. I find myself spending long amounts of time to get to the various nooks and crannies because there is so much to see.....everywhere. No TV's in the rooms....didn't miss it. So much to do and see everywhere else. Wonderful helpful staff. Great food in the Power House pub. Pub fare at reasonable prices. The Black Rabbit Restaurant is pricier, however the food is excellent and the service we had was superb. (Cheers to our waiter,Sean !!) As the Arnold says... "I'll be Back"-- so apparently will everyone else.

Room Tip: This is a lively place during the warmer months. Lot's of young people laughing and having a goo...

Had a great time as usual. We had a large room on the 3rd floor and had a shared restroom. Was a bit apprehensive about that but the facilities are well appointed, clean and not a problem. We already booked for next year.

Thanks James! We enjoy St. Paddy's day a whole ton. We even do a 1/2 way to St. Paddy's in September.
Thanks for your positive feedback!

The decor and surrounding grounds are delightful. Dinner at the reataurant was very good. We were in room 7 on the first floor. I would stay away from those low numbered first floor rooms. The window faces out onto the porch and it was very noisy until very late into the night. It is worth it to come because it is such an interesting place just bring those earplugs.

Thank you so much for coming. We offer earplugs in our rooms now; many hotels do. There are nights where they are needed, but we have security/guest service staff that do their best to limit noise after 10pm, but sounds like we failed you that night. Requesting upper floor rooms or rooms on the back side of the hotel is definitely good with us. Thanks again, we appreciate your positive feedback.
Thanks,

It is really sad to say that booking this night six months in advance and being very excited because the time we went before was magical! Great atmosphere food and rooms. However, on this romantic night it was ruined by customer service. We checked into our room, which you needed a maze to find it, the front desk did not tell us how to get to the room. Then we get in our room and we find that they supply you with ear plugs. Not sure why. We left to have dinner go to the winery enjoy ourselves. We came back to room and used their in room provided iTunes clock radio to listen to Elton John and slow dance when we get a knock at the door. It is 9:50 at night and we were told that it is "Quiet" time and we had to turn off the music. We did not have it blaring in fact you could hear the band below us in the winery. Hence the ear plugs.... I was so insulted that we decided to leave and go back home. We went to the front desk to cancel our room service order for breakfast. We were not even asked why we were leaving. I actually thought about maybe getting married there for get that. Very disappointing. I just discovered Trip advisor that is why I am just writing this now.

Hi Nancy,
I'm very sorry to hear of your poor experience with us. You mentioned having stayed with us before and enjoying it, which is good to know. Edgefield is a wonderful place and usually a very positive experience for our guests. We certainly do our best to inform guests of their room location at check in, so not sure how we missed that, the rooms down the winery wing are tricky to find without direction. I've sent you a private message to contact me at your convenience as I'd very much like to connect with you regarding your time.
Thank you,
Owen Craig

Not your run of the mill hotel. It has a lot of character on decoration, furniture and staff. It offers great places to dine on site and good beer choices. It was really cold and windy the January night we stayed and we were not able to use the soaking pool (you have to walk to and from outside in your bathrobe). The single pane windows don't help keeping the room warm. We had a room with a bathroom; no TV or phone (but who needs them?) Good internet connection.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a bathroom

Thank you for taking the time to review us. I'm glad to read you enjoyed your time. January was indeed very cold, but we were able to kept the soaking pool at above 100 degrees the whole time, but definitely a chilly walk.
Cheers, hopefully we'll see you again.

Tried to check in an hour and a half early but room not ready. Number taken so staff could call but apparently they got too busy. Room was nice and clean. Robes are a nice feature for the soaking pools. Mine had a hole in it...kinda tacky. Maybe they are being extra environment friendly by using every last thread! Bloody Mary's were wonderful and so was the herbal 7 sidecar. Live music at the winery was nice and so was the super sweet ice wine. The coffee, especially iced was out of this world!
In the soaking pool, which is quite lovely, an employee off shift was talking sooooo loud it was nerve-racking. She had no clue her voice was like a megaphone! There was also a family with 2 very young children in the pool which i found a bit disturbing for the healthbof the children and the cleanliness of the water.
All in all a great trip and would go back.

I visit Edgefield every time I visit Portland and it never fails me. Love the addition of the soaking pool and the new cocktail menu. The bartender at The Distillery is top notch but I would be remiss in not calling out the great service from everyone who works on the property. If you haven't been to Edgefield book your visit asap!
