“Convenient location for Parks and nice hotel”
Reviewed September 23, 2008

We stayed for 3 nights to visit Portland, McMenamins, and the Columbia Gorge area. The hotel is a great location for all 3 as it is right in the middle. The town of Troutdale is a bit run down and doesn't have much going on. The hotel offered a nice breakfast every morning and the staff was great. We had a problem with the AC our first night and it was fixed within an hour of us telling the hotel front desk. Very attentive!

We arrived and went through the check-in process with Mary at the front desk. She was very pleasant and provided us with maps of the nearby Columbia River Gorge. Check-in went smoothly and we went upstairs to find a well-kept, extremely large room that included 2 queen beds, living area with chair and sleeper sofa and small bathroom. A micro/fridge was also included. This room was considered a family suite, but it was actually one large room with a very small divider to make the living area feel separate from the sleeping area. The beds were quite comfortable, as were the pillows.

On the negative side, the sofa sleeper sagged badly and was in need of replacing. The springs were broken. We did not sleep on it, but whenever we sat down it, we sunk in. Had we needed to use it for sleeping, I would have requested a different room. Also, the bathrroom was the smallest by far of any of the hotels we stayed in on our 12 day Oregon trip. However, the large living area of the room helped to make up for the lack of bathroom space. It's always nice to have a separate sink outside the bathroom, and unfortunately, this room did not have that feature.

The hotel has a very nice "business center," complete with computer and printer. This was very convenient for printing out boarding passes for our trip home, along with checking e-mail. Everything was in good working order.

In the evenings, the hotel serves warm cookies, and some nights they even had hot soup for guests. The cookies were a nice treat.

Our daughter used the pool, which was quiet and clean.

The property actually offers a hot breakfast, which includes waffles, tater tots, biscuits and gravy, bacon or sausage, and egg patties, along with the usual continental items including pastries, donuts, cereal, yogurt, canned fruit, bananas, English muffins, regular muffins, and the like. It was quite an impressive spread and a big time and money saver.

We found the property to be an excellent value for the money and very centrally located to the Columbia River Gorge, Portland, and even Mt. St. Helen's. We enjoyed staying outside Portland proper. The hotel is also convenient to major roads. It's right off I-84.

I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Portland area who doesn't mind driving a bit to get to attractions.

We had our plans accidently cancelled at our time share by the reservation specialist, so we were scrambling to make new plans, we decided to visit Oregon and try to find a hotel last minute, we couldn't have made a better choice, truly first-class.The room was clean. The ammenities were provided. The staff was friendly and went out of their way to accommodate all our requests and answer all our questions. The full service breakfast complimentary and well worth the price of the room. There were enough towels for the two of us in our suite that we stayed two days and didn't have the maids come in.

My mom and I reserved a two queeen bed room for a four night stay to see family over thanksgiving. They gave my mom a $90 a night rate. My cousin decided to join us after the original reservation was made. I called and asked for a cot and was told they don't do that.but they would upgrade us to a mini-suite with a fold out couch for $10 a night more.

The first night the clerk tried to add another $7 a night for a third person, but we argued that was not fair. We didn't ask for the upgrade, but the offer was made for just $10 more; not $17. She agreed.

The night before we wer leaving my mom check out using her credit card and got a receipt. We came down to the lobby at $am wiht a cab waiting for the airport and a third clerk rudely flagged us: "I thought you left at 9 the night before. I was going to mail you the final bill". Back to the $17 additional charge again. AND she seemed annoyed we call our own cab without going through her. Very controlling and weird interaction.

Other than that, the room was nice, the breakfast was great and most of the staff was good. However, the "nickle and diming...switch and bait" tactics was a big turn-off.

  • Liked — Clean, comfortable, well stocked room and free internet, food for breakfast included.
  • Disliked — Three different staff were involved in our billing and they all disagreed with each other!

We were on our way to see the fall colors along the Columbia, and stayed here as a great place to start (at the western edge of the old highway and Multnomah Falls).

The room was huge, with two queen beds and a separate sitting area, like a small suite. Everything was very clean, there was in-room coffee, microwave, refer, and ironing board. They have a wonderful hot breakfast buffet, with eggs, hash browns, sausage, waffles, oatmeal, etc. - much better than your normal continental buffet. USA Today in the morning.

No restaurants withing walking distance, but several within just a couple of minutes drive. Also, downtown Troutdale is just a couple of miles away, with some great shops.

AAA rates this hotel as a 3-diamond, but I would put it more like a 3 1/2. Clean, quiet, and a good value. The only drawback was a soft, saggy mattress or I would have given in an "excellent".

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights while we attended a family wedding. When we first checked in it was somewhat unimpressive and bland. The room was suppose to be a "suite" but seemed like a regular hotel room with a cabinet containing a microwave and small refrig. The room and hotel in general was clean. The complementary breakfast was adequate and free. The hotel staff seemed nice and helpful. This hotel is close to the gorge, which was beautiful to explore. There is an indoor pool which kept our kids busy. Overall it is a fine motel at a good price ($89.00 a night). Dont expect to be "wow-ed", but I would stay again.

This place was okay, but what they promised on their website was not what you can get. The free shuttle was not available the first day, and then non-existent the next (it took some convncing to get any help). I'd stay somewhere else next time!
