“Served it's Purpose”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2013 via mobile

We reserved a block for family and friends traveling across the country for my son's wedding. The rooms were adequate, served their purpose by being very close to Edgefield and clean. We stayed for 6 nights, and I don't think our sheets were changed the entire trip - which was our only complaint as far as cleanliness. I know we stored a lot of things in our room for the wedding, but there was one night where no one stayed in our room. Yet bed still wasn't even touched the next day. I thought it was just our room, but other rooms where people stayed 5 nights (and had nothing stored for wedding) never had sheets changed either. These were grandparents, aunts and uncles, etc. - not the 20 something young professionals who partied all night and slept all day (they all stayed downtown at the Embassy in a penthouse suite all but night of wedding) My Mom and sister had the maid knock on their door one morning and were asked, "How many towels", and then she seemed put out when she was asked to come in and make beds and clean bathroom.

The breakfast had many choices, and the girl who was there 5 of our 7 days was delightful. I'm glad we tipped her, and tipped her well on day 5, as she was off our last 2 days. Fresh cookies in the evening, but never seemed to be enough!

If you book a block here, with group rates, watch your bill closely. They don't give the group rate upon check-in, they will adjust upon check-out. Our rate was not correct for everyone, and we were "grilled" about - were they part of the block, was reservation made in correct time frame, etc. before they begrudgingly gave the credit. I set up the block and reserved 3 rooms the same day, and one was charged a higher rate upon check-out and one didn't exist when we arrived - luckily I checked before the guests arrived at midnight to no reservation. Some wedding guests were charged much higher rates, but because they left early, early and didn't check-out at desk didn't get the adjustment.

All and all, if you have a wedding at Edgefield and want a private bath (almost impossible to get there as they have communal baths for all but a few rooms) this hotel serves the purpose and the group rate is good - if you get it!

We were visiting a friend, this was the closest hotel. Was a good choice. Someone raved about the breakfast, it really was very good. A good location to explore this area, scenic drives, the Columbia river, waterfalls, hikes along the way to Cascade Locks.

Due to our wonderful experience at EVERY Best Western Hotel the past 5 days, I will probably never stay at a another hotel. I could hardly fault the experience. It was quiet except for one interesting train horn, clean, comfortable, and the breakfast was the best I'd seen anywhere.

Hotel was clean and tidy. Breakfast was good. Staff very friendly and helpful. Door to our room had a broken latch and they fixed it quickly and still offered to switch rooms if we wanted too. The cost was very affordable. Close to lots of shopping and amenities.

This is a nice place to stay. It was easy to find, in a nice area, and nice places to eat were nearby. The beds were soft, yet supportive with lots of puffy pillows. The heater/AC unit is the typical blower kind that makes the room fluctuate between hot and cold, but most of them have it. The room had a microwave, iron/board, coffee, hair drier, and the larger size fridge. The breakfast is typical of the 'full-breakfast buffet' in this class of lodging and we were happy with it. The evening cookies were yummy. They had cocoa, tea, and coffee in the lobby at all times. They advertise soup in the evening- and it was nice, but they do not serve it on weekends It seems kind of silly, but they do not serve the soup Friday, Saturday,or Sunday. The staff was really nice and helpful. They were considerate and kind to my disabled friend. Consider yourself lucky if Brian is there on the night you check in. We appreciated meeting him. This is the first pool in a long time that was not shockingly cold. Most indoor pools are too cold for me. The steps in the hot tub are smoother than usual and my friend slipped a bit, so be careful. We paid an average of $100 per night, so it was a good value when I compared it to the Edgewater where our conference was held.

Room Tip: If you care about the view, inquire when you make the reservation. Ours was overlooking the back on...

Clean, great staff and awesome breakfast. Nothing high end, but very nice. We stayed here when we were taking a trip to see McMenamins Edgefield. Its ony a five min drive. Beds and air conditioner were great.
