My wife and I had the chance to eat at McCormick and Schmicks the other night and found the service was outstanding. Since we arrived during the dinner hour the restaurant was pretty busy, however our server was very friendly and helpful with menu suggestions, specials and great service. My wife ordered a parmesan crusted sole and I had the seared Ahi tuna. We also ordered a bowl of chowder and an appetizer of calamari. The chowder and calamari were great! Nice flavor and presentation. My course of Ahi was wonderful. It was served perfect, a nice sear on the outer flesh, while remaining rare in the middle. The plating was beautiful. On the other hand, we both had a problem with the sole. It was coated with a parmesan batter then ( it appeared) to be pan fried. Sole is a pretty delicate fish and the parmesan was very overpowering. Also, when you fry parmesan it has the tendency to soak up the oil in your pan. I hate to nit-pick, but it made it very salty and greasy tasting. Chef should give the fish just a light dusting of parmesan after a quick pan sear. It would really let the flavor of the sole come through.
Overall, by no means a bad experience, just a dining experience that could be awesome with a few small adjustments to the food prep.
