We have stayed at this hotel since it opened many years ago and always enjoyed it. But the years have worn it down and with it the customer service. We were there in July and requested a nonsmoking room. Our room was filled with smoke when we arrived. We had to change rooms very late at night. In our new room the dead bolt wasn't functioning, we called and asked if they would fix it in the morning as it was too late. The next morning we asked to have it fixed again. That afternoon our bed had been made, but the floor hadn't been vacuumed and no clean glasses had been left ( the dirty ones were still there). We asked for clean ones and to have the dead bolt fixed again, we got neither taken care of. We are Hilton Honors members and had no perks at all. We need to go to Portland this weekend and will not be staying here which is sad, it use to be a nice play to stay

Room Tip: If you want a nonsmoking room be very assertive about it.

Stayed just one night but wish we could have stayed longer. We were upgraded to a whirlpool suite which was very nice to relax in. The suites are especially nice with their separate living room and bedroom. An early riser can get up & not bother his/her companion. The service & friendliness of the staff was remarkable. Shuttle will take you anywhere within a 1 mile radius of the property. Great place if you want to hit the Mega Washington Square for shopping.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites at Washington Square for a romantic weekend in the Portland area. The evening reception was nice and the morning made-to-order breakfast was fabulous - both included in the price of our room. Our room had a small refrigerator, a microwave and "wet bar" area. The separation of space was great - we could close off the sleeping area from the sitting area. An added bonus was that because we are Hilton Honors members (a FREE membership - you can join online) our in-room wireless internet service was FREE! FREE parking, FREE evening reception, FREE breakfast and FREE internet. We will be back - every chance we get!

Room Tip: We asked for an updated room when we made our reservation.

My husband and I travel to Portland for 10 days every summer to visit family, and have stayed at the Embassy Suites for almost every visit. This summer will likely be our last stay. The hotel needs to move to be completely nonsmoking, like most other hotels in this day and age, and significantly upgrade its internet service, especially for a hotel that bills itself as being for business travelers.

My husband and I both have serious allergies to cigarette smoke. The room we checked into was a nonsmoking room ... but it was immediately above a smoking room. On our second day our room began filling with cigarette odor so we asked to move, which the hotel accomodated - but this was still inconvenient for us since we had already settled into the room and had to repack all of our things to trek to another floor. The next day we had cigarette odor in our 2nd room, even though at that point we were supposedly far away from any smoking rooms.

The internet connection at the hotel is terrible. I travel for business quite frequently and I haven't been in a hotel with as slow or as spotty a connection in a while. The hotel throttles the connection to 0.5Mbps - slower than the slowest "high speed" internet connection available - and the connection drops entirely every few minutes. The computers and internet in the hotel's Business Center are even worse - it took me 15 minutes to pull up my email and print out a document attachment. Now when was the last time it took that long to do something so simple?! This is not 1998.

We were disappointed the hotel does not offer breakfast via room service. When on vacation we like to sleep in, and routinely missed the free breakfast offered (which is a nice touch but ends too early). Unfortunately the restaurant in the hotel and the room service only serves lunch and dinner, so at 10am when we were hungry and looking for cereal or pancakes, there was no food available at the hotel.

Like others have noted, this hotel frequently hosts large groups of children - sports teams, birthday parties, etc - and these children terrorize the rest of the guests. It is standard for kids to be running up and down the halls, screaming at each other, taking over the pool, and riding the elevators as a game. For our most recent stay we requested a room in the North Tower, which is quieter, but we still had children running past our door and yelling to one another at all hours.

The staff are friendly and seem to genuinely want to help, but the equipment, building layout, and hotel guest policies prevent them from providing the type of experience a hotel of this brand and price should be offering.

Dear CaffeineChic.
First of all, let me apologize for any inconvenience this situation may have caused you. We do our best to ensure that we provide the quality accommodations to ensure all guests enjoy their stay.

With smoking rooms still in inventory we do try our best to ensure all smoking rooms are in one area and do not affect other rooms. We will ensure our housekeeping staff tends to your first room accordingly. Regarding our internet connection, we will be contacting our ISP to have them trouble shoot our connectivity and resolve any problems. With the new service we expect our guests to be fully satisfied and able to conduct business while on the road. Because we offer a full breakfast with omelet station cooked to order we unfortunately do not offer breakfast in our restaurant. I am sorry this was an inconvenience to you. As you mentioned we do host many groups and during the summer months a majority tend to be sporting teams. We do our best to control any high demand periods and also require all groups sign code of conduct statements upon contracting and arrival. It seems as if we need to revisit a few of the policies and strictly reinforce these with the parents/chaperones. I welcome any suggestions be sent to pdxbv_ds@hilton.com .

As our reviews illustrate, we do an outstanding job of taking care of our guests and I hope that, should your future travel plans include a trip to Portland/Tigard, you would consider staying with us again.

Respectfully,
Director of Sales

Took my 3 children school shopping in Portland and decided to spend the night. It was a Tuesday, and figured we could get a good rate/suite. We upgraded to a "long hallway suite" for $250.00(including taxes). We did not take a good look at the room until we came back from school shopping. I was appalled!!! For $250 a night, I would expect a room that didn't have a broken lamp, another lampshade in the bedroom that was tattered, rips in the blankets, very out dated tvs, (don't expect any flat screens) dust bunnies everywhere and air conditioning that hardly worked! I think we would have had a better stay at Motel 6 for half the cost! Thank goodness for the internet to get the word out!

Dear ClamshackCB.
The Embassy Suites Portland Washington Square has a team committed to providing excellent customer service and quality accommodations. We are truly sorry that this was not your experience.

The accommodations you experienced are not what our brand and or hotel represents. At this time we have implemented an inspection program are actively inspecting all rooms after they have been cleaned prior to releasing them as ready for guests. We do hope that this eliminates any cleanliness and or maintenance issues. As we move through the remainder of the year we do have a capital plan in place for improvements. One of the items on the list would be to update our TV’s. It’s a high priority for us and we hope to have this completed as soon as possible.

Thank you for your time and response. With guest comments we are able to improve our overall operation and provide the best in service and accommodations to our guests. I hope that, should your future travel plans include a trip to Portland/Tigard, you would consider staying with us again.
