“Unsurpassed”

If you are in Sunriver, Bend or Central Oregon do not miss this jewel. This is a "mom & pop" type restaurant with Northwest flavor and a quality that rivals my 20+ years of dining in many of the finest restaurants in the south of France. Lars is the chef and wife Jamie serves as the charming hostest.

Their South Bend Bistro best reminds me of one of my consistant favorites Lou Candeloun in Grasse, France owned and run by Chef Alexis Mayroux and his wife Sophie.

Lars and Jamie's menu is simple but sophisticated. The flavors are always sensational, the vegatables the best in the world and do not miss Jamie's Macadamia Nut Tart for dessert. The wine list, although limited, always offers at least two or three winners and never any poor choices.

Service is always top notch and by your second visit Jamie will make you feel like a familiar and cherished family member.

“Would have liked to have eaten here...”
Reviewed July 28, 2011

Call first and make a reservation because the hours on the website are incorrect. Since they the restaurant was sold, they can't figure out how to update any information on their website. BTW, if the restaurant ever reads this, your website is hosted through doteasy and you should contact them to have it transfered over.

We arrived at 8:45pm on Sunday of 4th of July weekend for dinner and were told that the restaurant was closing and that they were out of food. The staff was VERY friendly and offered to make us a reservation at a nearby restaurant which was helpful since the second restaurant was closing as well.

If your planning on eating out in Sunriver, you'll need to show up at 5pm or have a guaranteed reservation. I don't know why but that is just what we experienced over the weekend.

“Our favorite cafe in Sunriver”
Reviewed July 4, 2011

I recently took my daughter out for a special meal to celebrate her straight As in high school. As Sunriver homeowners, our choice to celebrate was at the South Bend Bistro near the Country Store. Our dinner was superb. Arwin, our waitress was attentive, even though the place was packed and the owner had to come out to help out, which she did with . We were never rushed and our meals of ahi tuna and pasta with prawns were top drawer. We started with the pear salad and a cup of cream of asparagus soup, again both fantastic. The restaurant is small and intimate and even though we made reservations we still had to wait ten to fifteen minutes. Once seated, however, the service was perfect. The only flaw in an otherwise enjoyable dinner was my glass of wine had some heavy loose coconut looking material at the bottom of the glass. Arwin took care of and quickly brought a replacement. All in all, the Bistro is a hidden little gem in Central Oregon, even worth a drive from Bend or La Pine.

“Want a fab dinner, eat at the Bistro!”
Reviewed May 13, 2011

I like fish but cooking it at home stinks! Recently I had the pleasure of dining at the Bistro, so of course I had the fish. The fresh salmon with lemon leek sauce melted in my mouth. The sauce was a perfect complement to the salmon. If you like salmon you must try this dish at the Bistro, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
The staff was very accommodating, even with a sudden rush of patrons. So if your in Sunriver you got to try the South Bend Bistro, you won't be sorry.

“Rude staff”
Reviewed July 24, 2010

Went with my girlfriend for a romanting dinner. Web site said open 4pm - 10pm. Arrived at 8:30pm on a Friday night. The place still had quite a few seated tables, however there was no one hosting, and as we entered the restaurant we were glared at, and very rudely told they were shutting down, and to leave. When I told them their web site indicated hours of 4:00pm to 10:00pm, we were informed that they closed whenever they felt like it. People there seemed extremely annoyed that we were there during the hours they advertised as open.
