“Affordable Family Friendly Destination”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

If you are looking for a family vacation destination that won't drain your wallet, Sunriver is hard to beat in any season.

To start with, rooms, suites and condos are so inexpensive, particularly given the quality, that you actually have money left to do other things... and oh the things there are to do.

Mt. Bachelor is, of course, the primary draw in the winter. It is a nice mountian, more laid back than places like Tahoe or Vail but with plenty of variety to suit every skier or boarder. There are also plenty of places to snow shoe, cross country ski or ride a snow machine close by and there is an ice skating right at the resort.

In the summer you can well, do about anything that doesn't involve the ocean. You can hike, bike, swim, fish, shop, raft and golf. I'm not sure how many golf courses are scattered around Bend, but if the two great courses at the resort aren't enough, there ate at least 20 more in the area, many of them highly rated. The resort has its own water park called the Sharc, complete with slides and a "lazy river," as well as miles of hiking and bike trails.

To be sure, this is not a luxury hotel in an exotic, romantic locale. The setting is rustic but well-appointed and utilitarian. Just the same, you will be hard pressed to find a family vacation venue where you get this much without spending thousands of dollars for a weeks stay.

Room Tip: If you don't want daily maid service, condo's offer the best value and the kids will have th...

We stayed at Sunriver this past Summer. We loved it. The resort is such a nice place for a family. We were right across from one of the pools which was so convenient for our daughters. We rented bikes and barely had to use the car at all; which is always a bonus on vacation!

We were to stay in a Lodge Suite, but were upgraded for free to the River Lodge. The room was massive and the view awesome!
The only problem we encountered was a non functioning shower, it trickled....which made for a cold morning shower. We called the front desk, left for the day and came back to a functioning shower!! Second morning shower was so much better!
If traveling with kids under 14 you can't swim at the Lodge itself, you have to drive to Sharc....which was just fine because its a wonderful building and my son loved the indoor pool. I'd like to see how great it is in the summertime.

Room Tip: Lodge rooms have either a king or 2 queens. We asked for a rollaway for the king room, however they...

We returned from our second trip to Sunriver and had a wonderful visit. We stayed at the River Lodges, which are good-sized rooms with a gas fireplace and beautiful views. The room had plenty of touches to make your stay comfortable...a large, tiled vestibule with room for winter coats and boots, comfy robes, a wine opener, and fresh coffee beans with a grinder to name a few. The staff is very friendly, from the reservation desk to the spa. The resort itself is beautiful and fun to explore on foot. I can't think of a way they could have improved our stay. We will definitely be back.

The condos are topnotch and the scenery is beautiful. The hot tub was a real plus after skiing.
The shuttle drivers are very friendly and show up very quickly. Most of them go above & beyond on a regular basis.
The isssues here are:
1) a half hour ride to get to the ski area
2) the food is not the best(esp. breakfast)
3)not fully operational in the winter
5)stores close early

We have stayed at Sunriver numerous times over the years and just returned from yet another short getaway there. We stayed in the guest lodge this time and had a king room with a mountain view. The room was very nice and everything was well kept. The gas fireplace is very nice for a winter stay. The deck has two adirondack chairs and a small table, which would be nice in the summer. The bed was very comfortable and there were plenty of pillows and a big fluffy duvet. There is a mini fridge as well as a coffee maker (with Bella Tazza coffee) and an iHome in the room. We did call down to the front desk and asked for a wine opener, which was brought to the room within minutes. One thing that I really liked is that housekeeping came early each day. My pet peeve with hotels is waiting to have our room made up/towels replenished and so this was definitely a plus for me.

There was a winter storm warning while we were here, but the resort does a great job of keeping snow removed from common areas and the roads. The porches/steps were all shoveled and even the walking paths were plowed.

In the room there was a separate recycling bin next to the garbage can. I wish more hotels/resorts did this!

If I had to find a negative, I would say it was the towels. They were not bad, but bigger and fluffier would be more fitting for this resort.

The village mall area of the resort has made huge improvements recently. The remodeled country store was really nice, and the addition of Sunriver Brewing Company's Brewhouse were standouts.

Overall, we had a fantastic stay and it is very apparent that the resort is constantly making sure that guests are taken care of. There is no question that we will continue to return to Sunriver.

Location: I heard from my mom after we stayed at Suncadia, that Sunriver was it's Oregon counterpart. So, if you want more details on the location, then see my review on Suncadia resort, titled " Four legs = five stars". Houses: Very nice with high speed Internet, also easy to walk to my friend KK's grammy's property. Pool: I like to call this pool the poio because I like it and I'm a kid (not to mention I call the pool at Suncadia the same thing).
