Wonderful place for hiking! Mom and I are limited to medium style hikes, and our distance is no more than 1 1/2 miles. This hike took us through lava beds, and old growth forest. We enjoyed the views all over, and shared the trail for a bit with a garter snake. We ended up having to turn around without making it completely to the falls, but where we turned around the view of the falls was incredible! The trail was definitely medium up to the point where we turned around. The trail was well marked, and was a 1 1/2 mile loop, then you could branch off and go clear to the bottom of the falls. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

Proxy falls is easy to get to. My only advice is to wear decent shoes as the trail goes through a lava area which means a lot of rocks. Overall the trail was fairly easy and well marked, although there were some parts that are uphill and kind of rocky. Spraining your ankle on one of those rocks could end your vacation pretty quickly. So again----wear decent shoes.

The falls themselves are picturesque and definitely worth the hike.

A good trail by no means smooth and straight. Lots of rocks and tree roots in the trail. Need good walking type shoes and a walking stick is a good idea.

Don't miss!!!

Good spot to let the children out and hike to see many wild plants, trees and flowers at a lower elevation before the pass opens. Great old trees!

Unreal, and hidden! You won't hear much about it. Go Eugene 1 hour east on 126. Go to 242 off the 126 and go about 10 miles on road that is about the width of two driveways. Not alot of traffic off season, so a nice wide. You will pull over to the left at Proxy trail. Go the "exit" route (forget the "in" route where the lava is - boring!). Go for about 1/4 mile and hit the upper Proxy falls. Go in, steer to the right of the falls, and climb up as far as you want. I stopped half way and was touching the water. You can then go on the left side of the waterfall, but that is boring. Very easy to get too. Then, go down the trail about 1/8 mile and go to the lower Proxy falls, and see a huge 100 foot waterfall. Unreal and completely great! If you went to Sahali and Koosah Falls, this is a close second. Well worth the trip. Easy hike. If you are adventureous, go the lower trail and climb down and go to the bottom pool of the falls. It takes an hour roundtrip, but is worth it. This is not talked about much, but is excellent, well worth it!
