“amazing!”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

You have to take this drive. McKenzie Pass is other worldly with great views of the surrounding big peaks. The nature trail is well worth the time. Bring a hat and water. It is high elevation and can be very sunny. Santiam Pass is awe inspiring with the miles of fire damaged forest to gape at.

“Surprisingly Wonderful!”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

I wish we had more time here. The observatory tower at the top elevation of the pass is remarkable. We loved the miles of lava rocks and the views of the Sisters and other Volcanoes in the area. We were a bit late to Proxy Falls, but we recommend that hike. A wonderful afternoon on a tiny road with amazing views.

“Diversity of scenery”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

It is one of the most scenic highways in Oregon & the views are tremendous. The diversity of scenery is extreme; you go from beautiful forests to stark lava flows.

“Slow going but worth the twists and turns”
Reviewed August 17, 2012

This is a great drive with some very nice vistas. The going is slow and you have to really saw at the wheel on some of the tight turns. The road climbs and falls as well. Stop at the lava fields and hike to the Observatory.

The Lava fields create a microcosm of hardy plant life that turn fiery colors in the fall season. Worth a visit !
