We heard about Cowboy Dinner Tree by word of mouth and started making plans to go. We made our reservations several months in advance so we could stay in one of the cabins. It was truly worth the wait!!! We decided to detour to Fort Rock to make the most of our visit since we came from Eugene but that is another review...When we arrived it was very busy with several friendly people waiting outside to be seated. Trees, benches and a lot of "Cowboy decor" are part of the great atmosphere. Once we were seated our waitress Amy came right over an got us started with a friendly smile, a huge mason jar of pink lemonade and a salad. She very cheerfully took care of each person making sure everyone felt welcome and her quick service was amazing! Angel the owner was working at the same pace cheerfully making sure everything was just right. Next came the cowboy bean soup and hot home made yeast rolls, about this time Amy cautioned us to pace ourselves as there was a lot more food to come. Next was the amazing 36-40 oz steak for my husband, a beautiful whole chicken for me-both moist tasty mmmmmm!!! and gigantic baked potato, last but not least dessert-apple crisp or strawberry shortcake...Yummy! We then waddled our way to our cute and cozy cabin with all of our left overs to tuck into the cooler we had been advised to bring. In the morning we had left overs for breakfast with coffee as we watched the sunrise and jack rabbits hopping around nearby. We had so much fun-already making plans to come back. Thanks to all at the Cowboy dinner tree for such a wonderful mini vacation.

100 miles southeast of Bend, Oregon. The Cowboy dinner tree is a place you want to enjoy with friends and bring along your camera to take those pictures of a one time experience. Reservations are required and you will need to select from steak or chicken as your main course. There is no question that baggies are provided for the take home left-overs. If you want to take home the bean soup you will need to bring your own container. There is cilantro in the salad, just in case it taste like soap to you.
Eight miles up the road is Thompson Reservoir and East Lake camp ground - spaces available first come first serve. No need to bring camping food if you went to the dinner tree first. Left-overs Steak/egg/potatoes - rolls if there were any left. Chicken tacos, chicken soup, steak salad....

This was my second visit to the Cowboy. It was even better than I remembered. There were four of us. We ordered to steaks (really more like roasts) and two chicken. We ate one steak and half of one chicken. The steak was rare on the inside just the way we like it. The bean soup very tasty with at least four different kinds of beans. The homemade rolls were excellent. The only draw back was the lack of real butter at the table. We asked about this and was told it was because of butter melting when left out. It's too bad because everything else was great. Please figure out something to do about the butter as your rolls are to die for.

This is a tiny little spot in the middle of vast country space. The steaks are huge (30 oz) and cooked to perfection. Homemade rolls, cowboy bean soup, fresh salad, baked potato and oh yes, dessert. We as a group of 45 took a bus to the out of the way spot of deliciousness and thoroughly enjoyed it. You must make reservations, even if it's just two of you and select your meal at time you reserve.

It is worth the drive for a special time out.
