This is an absolutely fantastic, family run hotel within about a two minute walk from the beach. We booked our two night stay directly through the hotel's website and received a confirmation about two hours after submitting the request.

Upon arrival, there was a sign at the desk indicating that the person on shift had stepped away and we should use the phone at the entrance to call for service. After calling, we relaxed in the small, quaint lobby and enjoyed free coffee and tea. The lobby has an old piano and comfortable furniture that you would expect to find in someone's living room and there is also an assortment of old movies on VHS that are free to borrow for use in the in-room VCR's.

A gentleman arrived within a couple minutes and checked us in. He took some time to chat with us about where we were from and told us the hotel is owned and run by his family. He made a couple of recommendations for places to get a nice dinner in town and also gave us a printed copy of his personal picks for restaurants in Seaside, Cannon Beach, and Astoria - picks were in categories such as "best burger in town" and "best place to take a date".

As per previous reviews, all the rooms are uniquely decorated theme rooms and we were assigned to the "vintage game room" on the second floor. There is an ice machine and vending machine at the bottom of the outdoor stairs to the top level. The room itself was really funky - the walls were decorated with "old school" games such as Clue, Chinese Checkers, Parcheesi, and Croquet. There was a small table with the top painted like a checker board and the shelving units held items like wooden cars and trains as well as baseball paraphernalia. There was a coffee machine and small fridge (with freezer) in the room and the sink was outside the bathroom and had a very large counter space. The nice thing about the bathroom here was that we got excellent water pressure from the shower....no horrible low pressure "water saving" shower heads like you get in most hotels. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well, especially since the ocean surf could be clearly heard with the window open even from a couple blocks away.

In terms of location, the hotel is in a quiet area at the south end of the promenade that runs along the beach. There is a restaurant across the street and a "mom & pop" grocery store that we were told has been there for quite a long time. The walk to downtown Seaside along the promenade is about one mile and takes roughly 15 minutes...it's an enjoyable walk past beautiful beach houses and hotels on one side and beach along the other and the promenade is well lit at night.

All in all, the Sandy Cove Inn is excellent value for the price, it's well maintained and there was a personal touch that would make you want to come back again.

Due to car trouble, we were not able to make the trip to Oregon and thus, I called 24 hrs. in advance instead of the 48 hr. notice required. When I called I asked that they try to rent the room anyway, but when I checked online, it showed that the room was unavailable. It appears that there was no attempt to let anyone know that the room was available.
I am not upset that they charged the room rate to my credit card, however I am irritated that they also charged the tax for an unoccupied room.

This is a terrific budget motel. Yeah, sure...it's still a motel but it's a family run business and the place was great. Super Clean and very fun decor (we stayed in the Game Room). The proprietors were very helpful and fun too. We loved the location. Just a two blocks from the beach and promenade and a mile walk down the promenade to the Main Strip. We loved not being in the center of the action and the noise. We will likely stay there again. Not really any down side....well - not the best sound insulation between rooms. If you are a super light sleeper this might not be the place for you but my husband is a slightly light sleeper and he was find.

We stayed two nights in mid-August and had reserved the room on the internet. The room seemed freshly painted and the color scheme is quite nice. The room is on the small side and the advertized queen bed is more like a double. There is only one chair for sitting. There is no closet or chest of drawers for putting clothes away and only three hangers on a rod for hanging clothes up. There is a mini-fridge and coffee maker, which is nice. We were asked to pay at check-in. This turns out to be a good thing although at the time, it felt a bit odd, as there was no one at the front desk when we left (but there was a notice telling us to drop the keys off in a box by the front door). The motel is situated on the south end of town, making it more relaxed but with easy access to the promenade and a longish walk to the shops, etc. of Seaside. While our stay was generally positive, I feel I have to mention the following to prepare future guests. First, the housekeeping could be better. We always try to be neat and would leave bed covers neatly but didn't make the bed when we left for the day. We found the bed exactly as we left it when we returned. The only thing that housekeeping did was to empty the trash bins. Second, the walls are thin. We could hear the TV noise from another room that didn't cease until almost 4 a.m., and snoring from another room that woke us up around 6 a.m. each morning. Noise from other rooms is a common problem but the walls did seem awfully thin. So, while there are many things to like about this small motel, it's best to be prepared.

This is the third or fourth time we have stayed at the Sandy Cove Inn. I keep coming back because it has everything we were looking for in Seaside. It's right at the end of the Prom so it's very easy to ride our bikes into downtown, or we can just walk right out to the beach. The rooms are very clean and have all been cutely decorated. This last trip we were with friends and we stayed in the Jacuzzi suite. It was a super room with tons of space, and the kids loved the huge tub. It also has a balcony with a view of the ocean. The staff is very helpful and friendly, and there is a great restaurant right across the street so you don't have to get in the car for dinner.

We will keep coming back!!

Immaculately clean!! Super friendly and helpful staff (Holly is a sweetheart! knows all the best places to eat!). Totally cute decor (we stayed in the vintage game room). Quiet (no street noise or noisy neighbors). Amazingly affordable rates! 2 blocks from the beach and boardwalk. Close to Cannon Beach (10 min drive) and Astoria (15 min drive). Must stay here if you're going to Seaside!!
