The Tides by the Sea has the charm of days past. It offers views from many of the cabins and apartments. They have a nice play area for small kids, shuffleboard and a pool for extra fun. The Tides is on the quiet end of the boardwalk and located close to the rocky end of the beach. It is a great location for beach combing and the walk to town by beach or boardwalk is always pleasant. The staff is friendly and the prices are reasonably low. Most cabins only have one bathroom but if you are willing to share it is a great place to stay.

First time staying here, usually stay at shilo inn..Needless to say I will stay here every single time I visit with my kids and husband. My room was very comfortable, warm, amazing updated kitchen with such a beautiful view and 2 minutes to the beach. My Kids Loved It And The Staff Was Very Sweet

My daughter and I just returned from a 3 night stay here and all I can say is it was less then desirable. We were in one of the cottages #167. When we arrived the heat was off and it was freezing in the room so we turned the heat up to 70 and went out to eat. We returned 3 hours later and discovered our room wasn't any warmer. Cranked the heat up to 80 and called the front desk only to be told the maintenance guy was out of town. The front desk woman came in the morning and her advice was to crank the heat up all the way!!!! We had to go out and buy some extra warm blankets. Our room NEVER made it above 65 degrees the entire time. We were never told I'm sorry or offered any kind of discount other than 2 extra duraflame logs for the fire which do nothing to heat a room. Needless to say we will NEVER stay here again.

Our three generation family of seven, flew into Portland, then drove rental cars to Seaside. We left colder temperatures back in Texas, so loved the sunshine. Have stayed here several times, and always enjoy our stay. Diane and Katie (?) in the office were so helpful. The views out of the huge windows are spectacular ! We had two, two bedroom units, and were so comfortable. Sad to find the little bakery-coffee shop closed, but we did enjoy the U Street Pub and Grill, and no trip is complete without a meal at Bigfoots' Restaurant. We walked the beach, strolled the Prom, Such a relaxing holiday, and we definitely will be back ! The best place to stay in Seaside !!

Room Tip: Ask the people working in the office.

We've come to the Seaside area and have rented homes, hotels and such. Great price and super friendly staff. We were there for six days and had no problems. We were in a cottage with two adults and two teens. A little cramped as we had lots of stuff. But the location was awesome, always could find a parking space, and super clean. Read the guest books in the rooms, we had a great laugh! I wish the bathroom had a little more storage or hooks, but no biggie. Also the fridge needs looked at gets a little too cold. Fun times though! If you get one they have BBQs to use no charge, but get one early! The pool was very clean as well.

Room Tip: Get a cottage if you have more than two people. The view isn't as good but there is more room!

Just had six days at The Tides which was our third visit to this location. Unfortunately this time around it did not live up to our expectations. We were in room 150 for the second year and both maintenance and housekeeping have deteriorated since last year. I have emailed the hotel with the issues we had so will not go into too much detail here. The maintenance issues were fairly minor but needed to be pointed out to the staff there. Bathroom tap falling apart, towel rails coming off the walls, loose toilet seat. as I say minor but should be checked after each guest leaves.
By far the most significant problem was housekeeping which was virtually non-existent. Sheets not changed during our six day stay despite hotel policy of three day sheet change. Wet towels left on bathroom floor and clean ones just piled up on toilet. Sloppy bed making. No vacuuming or sweeping during the six day stay. Previous guests medication found under chair (we had young children with us).
The housekeeping staff are very polite and friendly but from what I understand there are some staffing issues here which management need to address.
The building is very old and there are noise problems from the other rooms especially from above. If you decide to stay here select an upper room as the lower rooms can be extremely noisy.
This hotel is in a great location but there are others in the area that are a little more expensive and should we return to Seaside will likely select a different hotel.
I have rated this a three but in truth it should only be a 2.5.

I give this hotel an A for the location, staff (especially the Monday morning desk person), cleanliness, pool was cleaned daily, provided complimentary DVDs, plastic pails and shovels for kids, pool toys....nothing to mark down on. My advice though, would be to check the size of the room/suite that you are renting. Mine was listed as sleeping four, but squeezing two adults and two children in this tiny room was a challenge. The "kitchen: consisted of two stove top burners, a very tiny sink and a microwave. NO counter space; no toaster, no room at all. For a couple the size would work, but not any more. I felt I had to give a poor rating for rooms, but really only because it was so tiny and too much furniture crammed in. Barely any walking around room. When the futon was open, actually had to work hard to get around table, Walmart coffee table, wobbly legs and all, two night stands and one queen bed. Also no floor lamp, only one tiny table lamp. Would definitely stay here again, but not in this room; a larger one!

Room Tip: Skip the tiny studios
