We had a great time at Tides by the Sea in June of 2007. Our family included mom, dad, a 18 month old, 3 yo and a teenager. We rented an upper floor end unit that had two bedrooms.

The kitchen was fully stocked, the views were incredible - both straight out to the ocean and through the living room window to the north.

There was a comfortable king bed in one room and two twins in the other. We added our portable crib to the second room and there was still plenty of space. There was also a pullout sofa in the living room.

I did notice that there was no air conditioning, but I really doubt you would ever need it on the coast there.

At night, we watched the sunset over the ocean, bonfires on the beach in front of us, and fireworks (it was just before the 4th of July).

We plan on going back if we can get that same unit.

We just got back from a weekend getaway at the Tides by the Sea. First impressions were great. We had an oceanfront room with amazing views, and the pool looked fantastic. Our room was complete with a seperate bedroom, full kitchen and a cozy fireplace. The main problem we encountered was the noise. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything from crying babies to people talking on their cell phones at all hours. The ceiling sounded like it would collapse at any moment when the upstairs tennants walked around. It was difficult for us to get a good nights rest. Our toddler didn't get much sleep as it was so noisy, so we left for home after only one night. We paid for two nights, but we couldn't handle not sleeping for a second night. Overall i think you get what you pay for. This is by far the cheapest oceanfront hotel around Seaside. Next time i will spend the extra money to find something more modern, or just get a cabin.

I have stayed at the Tides numerous times during the past 12 years. It was initially a great girlfriend hang out. The seven of us had a great time in unit 169. We loved the size of the unit and the upstairs that has a couple queen beds and an ocean view.Since I got married my husband and I have stayed here a few times we love room 134 over the office. It has a view of the ocean from the dining area. We loved the furnishings it has a great romantic feel. I have stayed in a number of the other units which have been nice. Some of the units need to be updated. With that said even the most groovy room has a nostalgic feel. I know you'll have a great time, I ALWAYS have!

We stayed here for 4 nights for $90/night this past June which was an excellent rate for the upstairs corner room with panoramic views of the ocean. Our room had a small kitchen, completely stocked with dishes, utensils, etc. a dishwasher, microwave, etc. The views from the dining room were awesome. The room also had a fireplace and a complete separate room for our teenage daughter.

We enjoyed swims in the pool here each evening which was very nicely heated. The front desk staff was helpful and friendly and did not charge us extra for a Fri. night stay.

The location is right at Ave U with beautiful views of the ocean and was great for our surfing needs. This is a great place to stay with a family in Seaside.

The Tides by the Sea was very disappointing. We had booked our stay for our family (3 adults and 2 kids) after reading positive online reviews. When we arrived, our first impressions were bad, and were sustained throughout our stay.

The facilities are old (ca. 1900) and in poor repair. The exterior walls are decayed and in need of paint and repair (except for the plastic sideing) and the roof shingles are falling off. The pool water is a murky green through which you cannot see the bottom.

Our first room was furnished with old mismatched furniture. The futon upon which our children were to sleep literally fell apart when the frame was unfolded. There were no closets, and the "kitchenette" was stuck in the entryway. Although the room was ostensibly non-smoking, the entire three days we were in the room, painters working on the room next door smoked on the balcony in front of our door.

We finally moved to a "cottage" room which had two bedrooms, each barely large enough to accommodate its bed. Again, no closets. While the kitchen was adequate, the repair was poor, and although supposedly "fully furnished," the kitchen lacked such basics as silverware and salt and pepper. The bathroom has no stopper in the sink, no blow dryer, and only a shower.

One of our party stayed in a newer room overlooking the beach. The accommodations there were markedly better, but the toilet backed up repeatedly. The only repair attempted by the staff was repeated plunging, which repeatedly failed to solve the problem.

Which brings us to the crowning glory of the Tides: the miserable sevice. While superficially friendly, the front desk staff repeatedly ingnored or belittled our requests for assistance: "You mean there aren't ANY forks?" "I plunged that toilet a few hours ago and it worked fine THEN." When the toilet overflowed at 10:00 pm, we discovered that there is no staff on site after hours, nor is there any way to contact the staff in an emergency.

Having now done better research, we see that the Tides is not a member of Seaside Chamber of Commerce nor the Oregon Coast Vistors Association, and is not rated by AAA.

Caveat emptor.

Our family absolutely loved our stay! We have 2 children, ages 10 & 5 and they both had a great time. We reserved a one bedroom condo (with a sleeper sofa) on the upper floor with a view of the ocean. You could've just sat in the condo all day watching the surf, it was so nice.
One of the best things about The Tides was the heated outdoor pool. It was VERY heated and wonderful - rain or shine - and no sand to worry about!
The Tides is located at the end of the prom. It was the perfect location. You could spend the day in town - at the shops, eating, playing, the aquarium; then come back home to build a campfire, beachcomb and roast marshmallows right on the beach in your backyard!
The 4th of July was phemonenal!! We had never seen anything like it - and we're adults!!
The formal display on the prom was amazing, but the beach was filled with families shooting off their own displays - everywhere you looked! Even if you hadn't brought your own, there would've been plenty to see.
Great place to stay - great location - great pool.
There are no laundry facilties on site and bring extra pillows.
Enjoy!!

If you're traveling through Seaside, Oregon do not pass up a chance
to stay at "THE TIDES- By The Sea". It is an older motel system, but it has amenities the others have forgotten. If you have the opportunity to stay in the 2 story motel unit on the beach- you will be on the beach!
You will be able to see the most spectacular sunsets from the comfort
your living room in your unit. Some units have fireplaces, some even have small kitchens that are well equpped. If you want the Pacific to "wave" at you when you get up in the morning this is the place to stay. You won't be stuck two blocks up like some of the other hotel/motels in the town.
The motel is a "no pet" site, which would be the only draw back for those traveling with pets. Otherwise, make a reservation, ask for the "Beach Unit" you will not be dissapointed!
