“A real treat---must stay for Seaside”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

We recently stayed 2 nights at the Gilbert Inn in Seaside. It is a very charming and comfortable late 1800's home. It is well situated just a block off the beach promenade and a block away from the tourist shopping and dining street. They have off the street parking. The Innkeeper is so warmly welcoming and is very excited to share about the history of this charming home. There is a living room with a fireplace where guests are welcome to use the glassware to sit a sip their wine or whatever in the evenings. The Innkeeper bakes chocolate chip cookies late each afternoon. The house is secure. All guests are given access keys. The check-in time is only 4p.m. to 7 p.m. but that is made clear on your reservation. The rooms are very beautifully decorated with very comfortable mattresses and pillows and sparkling clean bathrooms equipped with hair dryers. Free wi-fi is available throughout the facility. I will definitely return to this place and strongly recommend it to my friends

We were in Oregon for just a week and stayed at the Gilbert Inn on our first night. It is a warm and inviting place and conveniently located for food, shopping and the beach. Maria is the charming innkeeper and we enthusiastically recommend staying here when you visit the beautiful Oregon coast. Next time out we will stay here for more than one night.

My husband and I just spent the weekend at The Gilbert Inn thanks to a great deal offered on Living Social. The hostess (Maria) was amazing ~ Friendly, knowledgeable about the home's history and went out of her way to make us feel at home. The location is perfect ~ Just steps to the beach, promenade, and main shopping area in Seaside. We highly recommend this Inn!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Emma room and loved it (in the historic part of the house), however if we were to c...

My husband and I just spent the weekend at The Gilbert Inn. What a lovely place! We were greeted right away by Maria, the innkeeper. She quickly took care of our registration, offered freshly baked cookies, and showed us around the common areas before taking us to our room. We were impressed with the brightness, cleanliness, and comfort. We didn't notice noise from surrounding properties. However, I imagine during the summer, with windows open and more tourist activity, that could be true, but no more than anywhere else in Seaside. The only noise we noticed was from other guests. Not bad. Upon hearing them thumping up the stairs, my husband joked, "Sounds like the kids are home!" And as much as we love children, it was nice to not hear any for a couple of days. One very important note: Very Good Security. You must ring the bell and be admitted when first checking in.

Innkeeper Maria was just super and made me feel completely at home. The Gilbert is beautiful and well preserved, with a capacious common area to which guests are made welcome. It's conveniently located near the oceanfront and the tourist area but is in a quiet location. The bed was extremely comfortable and when I could sleep, I slept well.

Unfortunately, with creaky floors, thin walls (let's just say the couple next door has no more secrets) and ancient plumbing that makes the loo a shared auditory experience, sleep commenced when the last guest settled down around midnight and ended when the first early bird got up around 5 am. Other reviewers don't seem to have mentioned this, yet I don't think I'm especially sensitive and it was easy to hear the other guests also trying to walk quietly, especially at night. Perhaps only the older wing has this problem.

Hotel-side parking was ample and conveniently located by a side entrance. Guests receive a key that opens both the side and the front doors. It sounds like a little thing until you've been burned by inadequate parking. Another small but much appreciated amenity was the free wi-fi. One final point: pillows are feather - nice if you like it (as I do); if you're allergic, you might want to call ahead to see if options are available.

We stayed here for 1 night, and would do so again! The room was clean and well decorated, and the house was interesting and historical. We came late and left early so we never got to meet the Innkeeper, but regardless, we had a great stay here. It's also a block away from the beach and the main street in Seaside. We'd definitely stay here again.

I recently spent three nights at the Gilbert Inn as a part of a travelling Pacific Northwest anniversary trip. It was very nice. It is just one block from the beach, and it's a very different kind of stay from being at a "regular" hotel property. You are able to park your car and walk to everything from this spot. The Innkeeper is Maria, and she will personally make sure that your trip is great. Try this place out.
