Reviewed September 2, 2012

The hotel was located near the highway but far enough away so that no highway noise was heard in the hotel. There is a supermarket within walking distance of the hotel. There is a computer with Internet and printer in the lobby area where you check in. The rooms for sleeping are separate from the check in area and free breakfast area. The room for sleeping was clean. My minor compliant is that my room had dripping water from the bathtub which the desk clerk said could only be fixed tomorrow after I would already have checked out. I would stay here again.

Comfortable room and reasonably priced. Large breakfast area in seperate building: wonderful! That deluxe breakfast was excellent too. Wifi reached there too, would recommend a stay here. Applebee's and Target for shopping nearby.

For starters, there were bugs in my room. One spider, fleas in the bathtub, and other unidentifiable insects in the bathroom. The walls are paper-thin. The bed was very hard, and I don't mean firm -- I mean hard. The phone has so much static that speaking to anyone was nearly impossible.

The AC worked fine, but it's located in the bathroom so if you like the bathroom freezing and the main room hot and muggy, you'll love this place in the summer. The noise from the freeway is noticeable, but tolerable. The staff adhered to my do not disturb sign. I never tried the pool or the breakfast, so no comment there. It has plenty of hot water.

By far the worst problem was the wifi connection. When it worked, it was spotty and slow. But it didn't work most of the time. The front desk would reset it, and it still would not work. My work requires access to the Internet, and for a day and a half I was out of work.

The manager at Days Inn told me to not go through an online travel site the next time I stay, because he can give me a better deal directly. He doesn't have to worry about that, because I'm never going back.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with no one adjoining yours. I could hear everything in the room next to mine.

We stayed at this Days Inn in Salem for one night in June. We were traveling with our dog and 3 adults, so we were put into a smoking, pet-friendly room with 2 double beds. We've stayed at other motels where the pet-friendly rooms were also smoking rooms so we expected and could tolerate some smoke smell, but the odor in this room was REALLY overpowering and made our stay somewhat unpleasant (we are all non-smokers). We saw they had their "no vacancy" sign out so we didn't bother to ask if they had a different room we could move to...plus we figured their other pet-friendly rooms would be similar with the smoke smell.

Other than that our stay was fine. Rates were reasonable, the room was neat and clean, freeway noise didn't bother us, and the continental breakfast was good. Actually I was impressed at how well-staffed the breakfast was. They were putting out fresh food constantly the whole time we were in the breakfast room, unlike at many other motels we've stayed at with similar types of breakfasts.

For the smoke smell I would rate this a one, but I'm giving it a three because other than that particular issue our stay was perfectly acceptable for this level of motel. If we were traveling in the area without our dog and could get a non-smoking room, I would consider staying here again. But with our dog, we will not return.

Room Tip: If you're traveling with a pet, call the hotel and ask if they have any pet-friendly rooms that...

Dear Customer,
I am sorry for the inconvinience you had while you stayed at our property in smoking room.
Thank you for taking time and write a review for our property. We always ask our customer not to stay in smoking room if they are non smoker. It is unfortunate for us that we have to rent you smoking room to you that night becuase all the hotels were full. I personnally tell my customer not to rent smoking room as no matter what we try the smell is always there. My front desk has been trained for the same. We are not after the money to rent the room. We have kept the room vacant many times and loose revenue by not renting smoking room to non smoker customer.

As a customer you are very important to us and we value your feedback. Your feedback help us to determine what you liked about your stay and how we can improve, you are helping us deliver a superior experience for you and other guests in the future. We've been stopping here twice a year on our trips between WA and AZ. It was originally a Best Western, and Days Inn kept all their amenities, including a hot breakfast that changes every other day. They also kept the carved wooden black bears that adorn the property. The rates are better now, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. We find that the freeway noise diminishes at night and we have no trouble sleeping. The wifi is password protected, something we appreciate.

Room Tip: If you don't like to walk too far, ask for a room close to the breakfast room.

We came here for an affordable stay and a clean room, and that is precisely what we got. The location is right next to the hwy, so we expected it to be rather noisy, but the room was quite quieter than we expected. If you are a super light sleeper, however, I'd recommend staying somewhere else. We found it suitable though. Check in was friendly, could have used a bit more concierge knowledge, but otherwise they were nice. Room was basic and clean. Pool was better than expected. Check out was easy and quick. Pet fee was reasonable.

All in all, this place neither exceeded or fell below my expectations and was worth the price; which was precisely what we wanted, and precisely average.

Room Tip: Request a room that is not next to a vending machine, ours was and we would make this request in the...

Arrived in Salem around 7:30 PM with no reservation or time to check out reviews. Pleasantly surprised. Even though all rooms faced I-5, didn't notice noise at all. Had king room that was spacious with micro, refrig that wasn't noisy and coffee.Table and desk-plenty of drawers,if needed.Breakfast had eggs, sausage, biscuits&gravy, friut, bagels, toast, etc. Changes daily. Plenty of extras-pool,hot tub, tennis court, playground. Obviously an older place but well renovated and clean-nicer than many newer ones. Newport fish restaurant across freeway very good. Would stay again.

Room Tip: Upper floor in case you get some one that gets up inmiddle of night
