My son is interested in Willamette University, just a few blocks up the street. The Grand is "old school" with a nice big lobby and is right in the center of town. Many restaurants within walking distance. The room was clean and comfy with a good desk for working on your laptop.

The free breakfast was great - everything was fresh.

My only issue (minor) is that there was a lot of road noise from cars. It slowed down by about 11pm. It doesn't bother me but could be an issue if you're a light sleeper.

I went out of my way on a trip from California to Bellingham Washington to stop and stay at this hotel, mistakenly thinking this was a destination Spa type hotel. It was not. Based on the photos, I was picturing a Four Seasons type hotel on a smaller scale. This hotel was more like a Holiday Inn Express Deluxe. It would be in its own category as a really really nice 3 star hotel. That having been said, it was a really really nice 3 star hotel. I stayed in a king jacuzzi suite and it was truly a huge room. All of the carpeting and bedding seemed new. I was disappointed to find the pillows in the Holiday Inn style of firm or soft, but definitely synthetic. The workout room was awesome and the restaurant was truly 4 star. The breakfast bar was wonderful. Overall I had a great stay and was really happy to have stopped over there- the main reason being that the staff was so bloody nice! So if you are looking for a Four Seasons type experience, this ain't the hotel, but if you just want a super nice 3 star hotel, you can't do better!

Room Tip: I liked the jacuzzi suite- it has a large 2 person jacuzzi in the room with a king sized bed.

This hotel is by far the best hotel in Salem. I've stayed in at least four different hotels in the city and none of them even come close to the quality of the Grand Hotel. The service was excellent, the rooms were comfortable, and the amenities were very good. The restaurant and breakfast were fine, but not exceptional. For the price, though, this hotel is worth it and guests who choose this hotel over one of the others in the area won't be disappointed.

This is a traditional hotel with a very nice lobby where one can actually sit comfortably and read a paper while waiting for friends, etc. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The breakfast included ample fresh fruit and hot food like eggs and sausage (particularly nicely scented with sage) and a variety of yogurts and juices. The front desk staff was helpful and friendly. Best of all, there is free parking and wifi and the hotel is in the center of town immediately adjacent to the conference center. It is possible to walk to Willamette University or the riverfront park.

We have stayed at the Grand twice - the last time for six days. The rooms and the service are very good and the price is reasonable for a downtown hotel. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel and look forward to staying there in the future.
