My wife and I were in town over Labor Day Weekend for a family event and selected The Grand Hotel based solely on proximity. Covered parking is available for unloading upon arrival and we noticed the spacious and beautiful lobby was quiet and nearly deserted. Check-in was quick and efficient and as my wife began to unpack I went down to move our car into the underground parking garage. There was ample space close to the P-1 elevator so we could have simply parked there in the first place.

We were very pleased with the space and comfort of our guest room. We had college football playing on both TV sets, enjoyed the fridge, wet bar, and spacious bathroom (great shower)!
We loved the complimentary breakfast and newspaper with plenty of fresh fruit and healthy choices. Although we did not dine in the hotel, we had drinks and appetizers in the bar and found the experience very enjoyable in terms of food quality and service timing.

Two minor concerns: The Wi-Fi connection was difficult for my iPad so I went without the first day and sought help at the front desk the next morning. The staff were very nice and showed me how to connect...but a blurb inside the room would have saved time. We also called for an extra blanket that did not materialize but we made do without it.

We have already recommended this hotel to our friends and familiy and consider it a great find.

The Grand Hotel doesn't quite live up to its name, but nonetheless our experience with it was very good. As previous reviews have mentioned, the lobby is very nicely decked out (better than most so-called "4 star" hotels in big cities), and front desk service is good. The rooms are clean, spacious, and reasonably modern - if a bit basic. Nothing too fancy here, efficiency and comfort are the name of the game - and the prices are set accordingly. The complimentary breakfast was busy, but well-laid out and with a decent choice of continental and hot items.

Easily your best bet for Downtown Salem.

Room Tip: Request a street-facing room, otherwise you'll be treated to a view of a/c equipment.

This is a very nice hotel that appears to have been recently remodeled. The furniture in our room appeared to be new and of good quality for a hotel. The hotel is attached to a conference centre and there are many places to eat nearby. The hotel isn't adjacent to I-5 but it's easy to get to and not as noisy as hotels next to the highway.

Came in on a Monday afternoon. The Salem area was in the midst of a heat wave with 90+ weather. My room had the air conditioner on at a very comfortable temp. when I arrived. The desk staff were very efficient and had me checked in in less than 3 mins. The room was nice (although the TV remote didn't work and had a maint. tag on it for the days I was there) and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was nice with a variety of fresh fruit, cereal (hot and cold) and hot items ( including waffles). It is in an excellent location in the downtown area of Salem so most of the Capital area is within walking distance.

Our stay at the Grand exceeded expextations. Check in was friendly & expedient. We enjoyed the free underground parking out of the sun & heat plus free high speed internet & morrning newspaper. The room was spacious, clean and the air conditioning good without being a distraction. The location in the central business core is great as we ate dinner at Divinici's a block away. The included breakfast buffet was more than adequate. We would stay here again.

I stay here every couple of months for a few nights mid week. The lobby is very nice but the rooms are just ok. They are clean but not well designed in terms of
Furnishings or layout. I have never had a room with a decent view and the rooms tend to be dark even during the summer months. The free breakfast is decent but the restruant is actually pretty darn good and has great atmosphere and decent service. Overall the hotel is just fine but the rooms are just not that comfy or inviting. I love downtown Salem and wish that there was at least one other option so I could at least feel like a had a choice.

Obviously the prime choice in Salem of business and convention customers. Our experience was unlike that of those reviewers who criticised aspects such as check-in and the organisation at breakfast - we thought the staff combined efficiency with a relaxed and welcoming manner. It was reasonably priced for a midweek stay in this sort of hotel. We spent 2 nights in a spacious and very comfortable room. The breakfast buffet (included) was varied and of good quality.

There is a reasonable choice of places to eat in what is a small downtown area. We strongly recommend Da Vincis on the High Street - an Italian restaurant serving interesting well-cooked dishes, rather than serving pasta by the bucketload smothered in cheese.
