First off: definitely check their website for their calendar of events, so you don't go during the off season and miss the irises.

But if you are in Salem in the late spring timeframe, stop in and take an hour (or less/more depending on your preference!) to walk around the amazing display gardens bursting with color and a variety of irises and other flowers as well.

It is free to walk around and it is just beautiful. They have a little gift shop and you can place an order for irises (if you are lucky enough to live where they will grow/thrive!) They have restrooms also.

It is a delightful family-run place.

If you are in the area of Salem, OR during mid-May to June, you must not miss the Schreiner's Iris Gardens. If you hate flowers, you will love it here. Trust me. Even Ebeneezer Scrooge would would enjoy his visit. Oh the colors!

It's free and I noticed that everyone from the really young (who could barely walk) and the very old (who could barely walk) wander the aisles between the flowers with smiles on their faces.

During bloom season the gardens have a special calendar of events for the weekends so on the Saturday we visited there was food and coffee available for sale, wine tastings and craft/artists booths. Check your calendars. They also provide tables and benches if you want to bring your own picnic.

We also ended up buying irises and received two free bonus plants for placing our order in person instead of online.

Go early or later in the day, gets very crowded during the mid-day especially on a weekend.

The iris are in full bloom right now (through June 9 is peak season), and the garden is almost overwhelming in the number of different colors and shapes of blossoms. Not only iris, but the garden is also full of columbine of every color, peonies, and poppies. There is also a flower sale room where you can stroll rows of tables covered with a few different iris in each vase. They sell cut flowers as well as bulbs, and you can order bulbs to be mailed to you, which I have done as a wedding gift. There are quite a few benches throughout the garden, where you can just sit and enjoy the colorful view.

If you love flowers and gardens, this little haven will fill up your senses! We went on Mother's Day, which was gorgeous and at the beginning of bloom season. We also went Memorial Day, which was equally festive, with live music and a chicken BBQ. But the gardens are magnifi"scent"! They generously gave out a bouquet of Iris stems to mothers and they sell a dozen stems for only $6!! My bouquet continued to bloom for two weeks!
The gardens have a wide variety of flowers accenting the Iris in May, and blooming trees etc which probably delight the senses all summer. I'll just have to go again later this summer to check that out.
It is located north of Keizer/Salem, but well worth the trip - ten minutes from town.
