“Reasonably priced, OK pizza”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2011

As the previous reviewer mentioned, the service here is hit-and-miss due to the lack of employees and their busyness level. The locals seem to keep this place pretty busy...but I'm not sure why. It was loud and service was slow.

The pizza is average at best. The crust is almost like a cracker; crunchy and stiff. No soggy limp pieces of pizza here (a good thing). The prices are reasonable; two giant pizzas, 6 salad bars and 8 sodas for $58. I'm guessing lots of OK food for a reasonable price is why this place stays busy. But if you are looking for pizza that stands out and/or any type of atmosphere, this place isn't it.

“Best Pizza”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2011

I live in Bangkok, Thailand but whenever I think of excellent pizza, I think of Michelangelo's Pizza in Salem, Oregon. That may sound a little crazy, but they make the best pizza I've had anywhere in the world and I've had pizza in many parts of the world.

I always order their pepperoni pizza, which is covered completely with pepperoni--no skimping on this or any other topping. The crust is not thin or thick but somewhere in between and simply delicious--a slightly yeasty flavor that's perfect. There's also an ample amount of cheese--just the right amount. The homemade sauce is also excellent. Their pizza is like the New York variety of pizza, except better.

The service is hit and miss, but it's not that kind of a restaurant. It's a family run business that employs a skeleton crew made up of family members and others. Food is their main focus and the sit-down part of the restaurant seems almost like sort of an afterthought. It's a place where one goes to a counter to order food and beverage even though table service exists. Occasionally, if one is eating in the bar, one has to go to the bar to order another beverage. Michelangelo's has a full bar with quite a few local microbrews on tap.

Many of the bar's customers are often playing Oregon Lottery games such as Keno or the slot machines. The atmosphere in the bar is created by the customers. The ambiance in the restaurant and bar is minimal. It still has a comfortable and welcoming feeling.

Generally speaking, most everything on the menu is good to excellent and the prices are very reasonable. The best part is their pizza, which is the standard I use to compare every other pizza I eat. Unfortunately, I have to go quite a ways to get a slice.
