Very comfortable with an excellent chef/owner who is always on site and involved. Great wine list . Reasonably priced.

“sometimes good, sometimes bad”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2012

They are not real consistent with their meals. Sometimes food is overdone and sometimes it is right on. Sometimes it has way too much salt. They also charge for bread which I think is crazy. Portion size is small-medium and will not go again.

“Shockingly bad and overpriced”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2012

To start, our table was sticky and thr room was cold. Our table overlooked the kitchen and the bathroom door. I ordered a beet salad. 6 soft beet slices in row on a plate swimming with bland olive oil. Giant chunks of garlic overpowered everything else (if there was any taste). Mussels in beer and bacon broth were drowned in some awful Liquid Smoke-y flavor. Really inedible. Paid for a basket of bread and ate a middling to good dessert. My friends had the kobe beef which was not cooked to order. The portions were small, but the meat was flavorful, as you'd expect.
$65 later I was convinced that I'd never return.

“great french bistro”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2012

We patronized Bernard's other french restaurant and we are happy to have him back in salem. We have had great meals. Salem needs good restaurants and Crooked house bistro fits the bill. The one thing i miss is the fabulous croissants he had in the morning at the other restaurant. No one can match the flavor of those. Bring them back Bernard!!! I like the quaint intimate setting.

“love french peasant food...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2012

I love this place....i know that there are mixed reviews of the Crooked House Bistro, but when I want the best cassoulet EVER, this is the place....when I want the best cote de provence red wine around, this is the place! Where do I want to go for Bastille Day? Here...where they roast a whole pig. But please understand....this is french peasant food...food for the french masses, not nouvelle cuisine, not french haute cuisine...it's rich peasant food....it's pork belly, it's cassoulet, it's beurre blanc people! rate it accordingly.
