Four of us were driving back north after a 3-day wilderness rafting trip on the Rogue River in southern Oregon when we pulled off the Interstate into Roseburg looking for a place to have dinner on Sunday, August 26.. After driving around finding nothing which looked inviting, I spotted a fading billboard for Mark V as a bar and grill. Unimposing from the outside, but once inside, a minor miracle. Husband, behind the bar, and wife, as hostess/server, own Mark V. Great attitude, great service, even better food. Deserts, including creme brulee and cheesecake, are made on premises. Ditto, the tomato bisque, which passed my taste test as one of best ever. My wife had the Waldorf salad, gigantic and, she said, her best ever. Oregon wines only, but decent. First-rate bottle selection behind the bar. My brother-in-law is a chef who once earned a NY Times one-star review for a restaurant in a tiny town in the Berkshires. Mark V got a first-rate review from him. I'm a now-retired network news correspondent and producer who has had opportunies to dine in better restaurants not only throughout the U.S., but in various cities of Europe. I would rank Mark V among the top 1% of all those restaurants. What a superb surprise.

Excellent lox salmon tapas
Better than average Waldorf salad
Bar scene. Pretty ghetto. Wouldn't bring kids or a date. Buddies and eat alone only.

We have eaten at Mark 5, three times now. A delightful experience each and every time. Delicious dinners and lunches. The last time we were there we sat in the bar for lunch, relaxed enjoyed a peaceful lunch and Lemontini ! Excellent and professional wait staff. The menu is so varied it will please the pickiest pallet.

Mark 5 is over rated by most. It has good food but it's pricey. They don't know what a Tapas is, even though they claim it's a tapas restaurant. Tapas means small bites, but there is little of that on the menu. The ambience and service is good, but usually quite pretentious. I've been twice, and while it was okay, it's not where I would go often.
