“Great place for everyone”

Smith Rock State Park

Smith Rock state park is one of the best places to visit in the area, having something to offer for anyone. From the casual/light hiker, that could take a stroll along the banks of Crooked River, to the hiking enthusiast ( which may choose to loop over Misery Ridge, then circle back and go all the way to the top of Grey Butte), or from those interested in mountain biking , riding over the outer edge trail of the park to the rock climbing buffs. The combination of the river valley and the red rocks is very scenic so bring a camera (even better, bring you wide lens if you have one) with you and plan to spend at least 1/2 day here.

This was a very nice attraction with lots of hiking trails. Unfortunately we did not use any of them due to the weather and not being prepared for serious hiking. The views of the river valley from the top of the ridge were spectacular as were the rock formations. We might be tempted to come back this way later in the spring or summer and use the trails.

Beautiful trails take you along the Crooked River as it winds through this wonderful State Park. We saw three happy Otters and many rock climbers scaling the challenging vertical faces of the red stone rocks.

This is a beautiful hike and lives up to its name on most trails. The warnings about the rattlers came to life when we ran into one coiled....literally. The views from the top are amazing and the benches provided to sit and gaze are a great idea. I have met many people from all over the world the top of the trail up by Monkey Face and had some most interesting conversations. I have hike it with friends and feel comfortable hiking it alone as well.

I went to Smith Rock with a Friend in late February and it was like a Spring day. What a beautiful location and the views were great. We just went for a hike, but many people were coming to climb the shear cliffs. What a great setting. I would highly recommend taking time to visit Smith Rock for anyone who is in the area. There was no fee when I went in February, but might be later in the busy season.
