“Phenomenal!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

Hiked Misery Ridge up past Monkey Face. Incredible views at the top! Our little 7 lb dog made it all the way up and down with no help! Look for the eagle watchers...they are a wealth of knowledge and you just might get lucky enough to see the resident bald eagle!

And if you're a rock climber, you'll return to this magnificent park again and again!

“Smith Rocks State Park Hike, Bike Rock Climb, Picnic Sightsee.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2013

Smith Rocks offers outdoors adventure for everyone, even the physically disabled can at least view the area from the parking lot, and enjoy a nice picnic under the shady Juniper trees in the parking area! A world class rock climbing area, it enjoys international attention, but that does not rule out the casual stroll or sweat popping hike. A stroll down to the river side trail is fairly easy, but if you feel in need of a Workout, try the Misery Ridge Trail, which ultimately leads to the top of the whole ancient volcanic plug to great views of the High Desert, and off in the distance to the West, the Cascade Mountains.

Early Morning and Evening light can make this a photographers paradise, as the many sculpted shapes of rock forms and the myriad colors of rock provide millions of great shots, limited only by your imagination and perspective. Also of note, the Crooked River passed through the park and there is some good trout fishing to be had. Visitors will be interested to not that several movies have been shot here including The Postman and Rooster Cogburn.

Visitors with the stamina to hike few miles can view the Monkey Face, a formidable pillar that is a world class rock climbing route, it is viewable from the River Trail, Misery Ridge Trail and the top of the cliffs. As a non climber, I find it hair raising just to see people working their way up and down this route. By the by, Cascade Lakes Brewing Company in nearby Redmond is inspired enough by this pillar to name a beer after it, Monkey Face Porter! It is a great beer to end your outing with a cold beverage on a Hot Central Oregon Summer Day!

My wife and I walk down at smith rock a lot in the summer we really enjoy the evenings down there along the river trail very cool and quiet. I like to watch the rock climbers. They have a lot of trails out there ranging in difficulty I love it!

“Beautiful”

For experienced climbers or casual day-hikers or just drive-to sightseers; this is mother nature at her best. Good interpretive diplays and parking.
