We ate dinner at this restaurant and would never go back. They supposedly have the best prime rib in Oregon, but we did not think so. The food was very marginal - nothing to justify the price. The waitress was very nice and friendly, but they don't have a bartender and the waitresses have to look up how to make drinks in a book. I ordered a daiquri and got a tom collins - couldn't drink it. The desserts sound good, but when you get them, they are a little bowl like a school lunch. Skip this place - you would be money ahead to order pizza.

This reviewer must be a fan of something really special. Our restaurant has been written up in SUNSET magazine as “the best dinner House between Medford and Crater Lake”. Sunset thought we were special!
Like any good cook our Servers, who live in this rural area, follow the old time recipes we found in some old bartender’s books to make drinks from scratch ingredients. The way they did when the Hotel was new! Perhaps they did make a mistake and make the wrong drink, or perhaps it wasn’t poured out of a bottle of mix and tasted different from raw ingredients.
It wasn’t up to this guest’s standards and that is unfortunate. If she had made a comment to the Server, I know the server would have done her best to make it right.
We employ local people who do a good job of taking care of our customers as this guest acknowledged.
As a dinner house that also serves cocktails, we don’t charge excessively for our cocktails and can’t afford to hire a full time bartender. We are not a bar. We are a good restaurant, which serves what most people find to be a GREAT meal. Hearty, robust, healthy portions at a fair price. Our desserts are not huge, wasteful, prefabricated; take it out of the box and serve it concoctions. By the time most of our guests have enjoyed the large dinner portions we serve, they want some of our home made delicious desserts, but not too much as they are already full. Many of our travelers tell us “it is the best meal they have had on their vacation”.
It is too bad that this guest didn’t choose to enjoy the charm and great food for which we are known. People from Southern Oregon drive for hours to enjoy a meal at the Prospect Historic Hotel Dinner House.
Since she has decided to not come back, unfortunately we won't get another chance.

We stayed there in June 2009. We arrived just before dinner, but the reception was warm and friendly. Since we had a lot of miles to cover the next day, we needed to get an early start. The hotel receptionist helped plot the best course which allowed us to drive through nearby Crater Lake National Park. She also offered to prepare breakfast to go for us which was much appreciated.
The dinner in the restaurant was delicious and the service was excellent. We also liked the accommodations which were historic but sparkling. Free WiFi throughout was also appreciated.

On a road trip through Oregon and visiting Crater Lake we spent one night at this hotel and it was a wonderful experience. The hotel is beautiful and restored to it's Victorian elegance and extremely comfortable. There are some lovely serene hikes featuring waterfalls and giant boulder formations and we got to experience a small slice of small town life for a day here. The dinner house is closed for the winter so we ate at a little place along the hwy and spent a very peaceful night in a big brass bed in the Pearson room. Our breakfast next day was delicious and served up with friendly chat by the owner, who sent us on our way rested and satisfied. This is a delightful place very well run by a genuinely nice couple. If you are visiting Crater Lake stay here!
