The Heathman is situated in an ideal location in downtown Portland right next to the museums, parks, symphony hall, and just blocks from the river and shopping. Restaurants were close by and the service was outstanding. Although Portland can be spread out so when I had somewhere to go, the staff was quite helpful with directions and instructions.

The hotel itself was older but the rooms were furnished with up to date furnishings and amenities (plasma HD TV, etc.). One pleasant surprise was I had the opportunity to select my style of king size bed. I selected the "feather bed" and was very pleased. If there was any complaint it would be that the room where I stayed was too small, but that is what you get in older hotels in larger cities. For all of the charm and ambience that the Heathman had, give me the smaller room any day.

I was staying at the Heathman on business with some side trips. I thought the hotel would serve any traveler on business or leisure.

Okay, I never have the time to write a review about anything, but thI just had to write this after my latest stay at the Heathman Hotel in Portland, OR. I travel every week for work and quite a bit as well for pleasure. I find myself in a wide variety of locations throughout the western United States. I have never experienced anything quite like The Heathman Hotel in downtown Portland, OR. It is extremely classy and every aspect of it is top notch. From the moment you are greeted at the door to the time when you check out, you feel like royalty. The rooms are extremely nice and everything is thought of to make you feel special when you are there. The location is perfect for enjoying the city of Portland, which is quite lovely. I just can't say enough of how happy we have been with the Heathman every time we've visited Portland. I HIGHLY recommend staying there, if you can get a room!!!

The Heathman met and exceeded our expectations. The room was clean, comfortable and had all of the little extras that make for an enjoyable stay. The service was above and beyond. We were greeted and had conversation with the front end staff each time we returned or left the hotel. Bed turn down service included little extras like laying out our robes, fluffing the pillows and supplying new toiletries and bottled water. The hotel is a classic and includes a well stocked library.

This was our first trip to Portland & we were very pleased with our decision to stay at the Heathman. Our rate through AMEX included breakfast & all three mornings it was truly outstanding. The service throughout the hotel was excellent & very professional. One side note- This is a historic property so if you are expecting your suite to have a large bathroom, you will be slightly disappointed.

Wife and I on a vacation, stayed two nights. Hotel has been recently refurbished, and tastefully done. Small rooms, but as stated well done. upscale materials, great usage of space and very comfortable. Requested and received tempur-pedic bed. Service was outstanding from front desk, concierge, and especially restaurant.. Over all one of the best Portland hotels stays in the last ten visits. Would definitely recommend, and will be back.

Our trip started off here as our Amex Platinum highly recommended this hotel. We arrive at the hotel 30 minutes after check in time. We reserved connecting rooms. The connecting rooms were not at this time. However, Tyler, assured as that he could get rooms close together and if we went out to explore the city he would call us when they were ready. Seveaviableral hours later, we went back to the hotel at 6:30 PM (of coarse with no phone call). They give us rooms that they claim are close to each other and they are on opposite sides of the building. They said they were sold out our entire stay and could not change rooms during our stay. We went on our lap top and found that rooms were available. No one who promised that they would see if we could change rooms contacted us further. In addition, one of the rooms came with a breakfast plan we were planning on using. However, due to the separation of rooms in room eating breakfast was difficult. We explained this to Tyler who did absolutely nothing. At this point we were expecting comped breakfast (which most other hotels would have done) and they did not. The idea of a personal concierge seems like a way to rip off customers, people who were once bell men now become incompetent desk managers and concierge. The doormen were very kind (Ben). However, the valet and personnel concierge expected tips after we made it obvious that their services were poor. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT STAY AT THE HEATHMAN.

Pure class all the way at The Heathman. Stayed in the Symphony Suite, perfection. We wanted for nothing, because anything we did require was at our door in minutes. Take advantage of the concierge, they're super helpful. Friendly staff all the way around. If you need something, ask and/or give them a chance to make it right--rather than cowardly complain without action on a review site. That goes for any lodging, restaurant, etc!

And if you use the valet for your car, please bear in mind that they are running 3 blocks away & a few levels up a parking garage to get your car (parking volume wasn't a factor when the hotel was built in the 1920s). So do tip! Tip well, tip often. If you can afford The Heathman, you CAN afford to tip the people running their butts off for you.

The Heathman's signed library collection should not be missed. It is an historic hotel with a lot of history. Respect it, and maybe the ghosts will go easy on you. Just kidding, maybe.

Portland is very friendly, and far from typical. Everyone is accepted, so keep your judgmental looks to yourself. Sure the person waiting on you might have 10 piercings on his face & 20 tattoos, but you might look freaky to him in your belted khaki shorts & white socks. It's also one of the greenest cities I've ever seen! That goes for their eco-consciousness as well as the greenery. Take it all in, you won't regret it!
