My husband and I stayed for 3 nights while he attended a conference and I did some book buying for the school where I am a librarian. Everything about the Heathman reeks of quality. The doorman dressed as a "Beefeater," the historic and characteristic architecture, the beautiful wood-paneled piano bar, the corridors with original Andy Warhol prints, the excellent service, but most of all those Tempurpedic beds. We never slept so well! I just wish all hotels had those beds, as the main reason you are staying at a hotel is for sleeping, right? It was also very convenient to many of Portland's major attractions, the Max rail, and has free high speed internet access, and a top-rated restaurant. But you can also walk to nearby restaurants of all types: Persian, Lebanese, seafood, traditional American cuisine, Kenny and Zukes amazing deli, Asian, and many other choices. You can also shop at Powell's bookstore, Nordstrom's, Saks, and many fine downtown shops. The Art Museum is also just steps away from the hotel.

We were treated like Kings from the moment the valet took my keys until he returned them to leave for home. The Beefeater gave excellent recommendations for where to eat and what to visit during our stay and he had a great sense of humor. The front check in staff were friendly and very welcoming. I also noticed an employee -who I was later informed was in fact the General Manager of the Hotel, Chris Erickson- was in the lobby assisting a woman who started with a frustrated expression and left for her room with a smile. We only stayed a couple of nights but the kids enjoyed the hotel too, especially the interesting library. My kids are teens who appreciate books -which were even signed by the authors. We all really enjoyed the Andy Warhol art and ate one of our dinners in the dinning room which served excellent food. Overall, I would highly recomend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable, character hotel, that treats its guests with class.

We just got back from staying at the Heathman for our daughter's Prom. We rented a Symphony Suite for the girls and my wife and I stayed in a different room.

The rooms are well designed for spaciousness and well appointed. The decor exudes a feeling of sensible luxury. French Press with Peet's Coffee was a plus for us coffee snobs.

The staff is remarkable from the valet parking on up. Concierge went above and beyond as well as the front desk. Each of them produced 5 star services!

Food was incredible; the Chef has a gift for blending unique ingredients to produce sensational pleasures. (too many chefs seem to try so hard to concoct something unique and it turns out to be a disaster, this is not the case here) Notably: Oysters on the half with a simple yet delicious vinegar dip, Dungeness Crab Devilled Eggs with copious amounts of fresh crab, Steamed Clams with chorizo and sun dried tomatoes, House smoked Salmon with bagels and cream cheese (even though room service forgot my request for extra capers and I did not get any at all) nobody's perfect... Even the room service prices were reasonable.

The Bar offers an enviable list of Single Malts and the pour is respectable. (Even if I asked for exactly 3 ice cubes and got 6 instead, again- nobody is perfect) Saturday night Jazz Trio was acceptably talented on this particular evening, not bad enough to make you leave but not good enough to make you want to travel across town to see them either. Only thing missing would be a nice little "Man Cave" where one could enjoy a nice cigar.

The only other item of contention would be the fact that we ordered Tempur-Pedic mattresses in both rooms and got the Euro Pillow Tops instead, as we sleep on the Tempur-Pedic’s at home the change was actually a blessed oversight as we enjoyed the change.

If you are looking for an outstanding experience for a very reasonable price I urge you to give the Heathman your utmost consideration! If you are simply looking for meal prepared by a gifted Chef, you won’t want to miss his creations. Enjoy!

The staff and facilities at the Heathman Hotel provided everything we could have wanted and more. The room was comfortable and fully stocked with every manner of accoutrement needed for our stay. The décor is stylish and impressive while the entertainment and cuisine puts the Heathman among the finest of accommodations, I look forward to my next stay here.

I've stayed at the Heathman a handful of times over the last year, and have been VERY impressed with the consistent quality and service. From the curb to the room, staff is attentive and friendly and never seem to be just digging for a better tip. The tea-room/dining area is a fantastic place to relax before or heading out to the great restaurants in the area, and the bar has a nice, open atmosphere. Good selection of single-malt scotch, incidentally. Love the mezzanine and especially the library with signed first-editions! My wife actually took a few pics of the room to send to a friend, so I've included them here...

This is a wonderful boutique hotel in the centre of Portland. Great access to everything. Great staff and amenities - restaurant and room service. Quiet even though it's located on one of the main streets. Lovely little extras like real coffee and tea in your room. Wine and entertainment (piano) in the afternoon.

Four very deserving moms earned a day/night out in downtown Portland. We had a fabulous day at the spa and then out for dinner and drinks. We were completely spoiled and the spoiling didn't end at the spa. Our stay at the Heathman was magnificent and it was the perfect place to get ready for our evening plans and to retire after we enjoyed a night out on the town. We had a king suite with an adjoining parlor room. It was perfectly grand for the four of us. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and luxurious. To top it off, the service was incredible. Everyone who helped us went above and beyond to make our stay a memorable one.
