What a delight it was to drive up to the Historic Heathman Hotel in Portland, Oregon and be greeted by the smiling Vintage attired Valet. This set the stage for a perfect stay and urban experience. Checking in was prompt and informative; we were asked if we needed dinner reservations, theater tickets or any directions. Our valet wasn't at all disturbed my our masses of luggage, he charmingly told us he had had as many as six carts full for a previous guest, which made us feel relieved.

This wonderful old Heritage Hotel provided us with charm and convenience. Located in the heart of the downtown and theater area it is only a couple of blocks from Pioneer Square as well as the theaters and many museums.

The elevators are quick, the wide hallways enhanced by lighted live Orchid plants. Our room was luxuriously appointed with a European down mattress (one of three choices). We enjoyed the French Press coffee/tea setup every morning while reading the Oregonian Newspaper which was supplied outside our room. We enjoyed the relaxing feeling of being un-rushed and pampered. Also important to us is fresh Oregon air, and the windows here actually open! The Heathman provides for instant internet connection right at the in-room desk and a guest library/ business area above the lounge. There is a small gym for those who want to keep up their exercise routines - however we enjoyed the exercise of walking and exploring the city on foot with no need for using a car. At the Heathman, happy hour is a grand experience in the magnificent and gracious lounge.

We loved every minute of our visit at the Heathman.

The Heathman is a lovely hotel at a very convenient Portland location. It is a boutique hotel with distinct style and charm. The room was very beautifully decorated. They had the most unbelievable loose herbal/floral tea available with an accompanying tea set in the room. Overall, it is a restful place.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Heathman Hotel. The suite we had was well decorated and we had plenty of room. There was a really nice balance of old world charm and new decor.

Sitting down in the bar area at the end of a long day was so relaxing to sit by the fire and listen to some music. The staff were very accomodating and the location was perfect in the heart of the downtown area.

We spent two nights at the Heathman on a recent trip to the Pacific Northwest. We booked because of the excellent reputation of the hotel and the great location in downtown Portland. We were not disappointed! The room is not huge, which is not uncommon among older downtown hotels, nor is the bathroom anything to write home about. But the amenities in the room--all the fixings for Peet's coffee and tea, earplugs, etc.-- were unusual and first-rate. The service was excellent from the doorman to the concierges to the cleaning staff. The room was very quiet though we were there on a Saturday night and the hotel was booked solid. The location is excellent. Portland is a very walkable downtown, safe, clean, and full of interesting restaurants and shops. We had a great stay and would definitely select the Heathman again.

We stayed here on a weekend where the hotel was at 100% capacity (Portland Marathon). When we first got to the room, I have to say we were a little disappointed. It's one of Conde Nast's top 500 hotels in the world, and having stayed at some of the others, we were a little surprised at how small it was. The bathroom was more like a powder room.

This quickly faded, however, when we actually began our stay. Everything in the room is very high-quality with a luxurious feel. It may have been smaller than we expected, but it was very well laid out. The king-sized TempurPedic mattress was a dream. I've never had a better night's sleep, ever. The blankets and the throws were cozy.

What sets it apart, though, is the service. Even with a full hotel, we felt that we had the whole staff at our beck and call, and that they were all eager to serve us. Late at night, we couldn't get the air to make the room as cold as we liked. The concierge came up and fixed it himself because the maintenance people were gone for the day. The doorman and valets treated us like royalty, and it was genuine, not put-on.

The in-room food service was fantastic, with moderately priced menu items. Portions were large, and it was delivered exactly when they said it was. Our restaurant experience the next morning was not as good, with undercooked eggs and an aloof waitress.

The business center is equipped with two computers and a printer. It's not actually a center, but is a corner of a lovely and large library. The lounge has a jazz band with a singer whose voice could melt butter.

The fitness center is a converted hotel room. Small, but nicely equipped.

There were a lot of little thoughtful things. One of the nicest was coming back from the marathon to find bananas, water, and snacks near the elevators. It was a kind and thoughtful thing to do.

There is valet parking only, at $28/day. They have a City Breaks package that is considerably more economical than their regular rate.

The conference and reception rooms are quite beautiful and lush.

Best service we've ever had in a hotel.

Had the opportunity to stay at The Heathman in mid August 2008. Only regret is not being able to stay longer. The hotel is beautiful and well appointed with attention to every detail. The staff, services, accommodations were amazingly friendly and helpful without being intrusive and annoying. The chocolate shop is a must visit!!! The rooms feature tea kettles and french presses for some delicious coffee. The rooms are spacious, beds sooo comfy. The bar and rest. have amazing food and drink that are full of fresh seasonal ingredients.

The hotel's location is centrally located to everything downtown and is an easy walk to anything you could need and want to see in Portland.

I can't wait to return. Book now to experience such a gracious gem in the Pacific Northwest.

A beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting in downtown Portland. We received a corner junior suite on the top floor as requested.
The room was well stocked with lush towels, honor bar, and many amenities. All the staff members were smiling and everyone asked to please let them know if we needed anything. One has a choice of beds when checking in--ours was a tempurpedic--and heavenly! The onsite Heathman restaurant is exceptional.
I would have rated this hotel with 5 stars if not for the following minor flaws: The TV orientation was terrible. One couldn't really see it well from either the couch or bed. Although the towels were hung up and the note NOT placed on the bed, all were washed anyway. I do like to contribute in a small way to the environment. There were also some pubic hairs in the bathtub and a razor cap on the floor.
I would stay at this hotel again if ever in Portland again.
