“lavish hotel in the heart of the city”
Reviewed December 15, 2013

The king suite was gigantic. It has a separator between the living room and the bedroom. The living room itself contains a large entry way with a desk, mini bar and fridge, sofa and table. The bed and pillows are extremely soft. My reason for the deduction of the one star was due to: dissapointing tiny bathroom and the starburst on the headboard made an annoying rattling noise when the AC is on and was unstable.

The Heathman is a nive boutique hotel with great service. The initial room I had was a bit small with a funky odor so I asked for another room. They upgraded me to a suite without me asking for an upgrade....very nice guesture. The restaurant was also tasty. The only downfall is that the walls are thin. I was awoken to TV from the room next to mine.

This is a great small hotel that delivers the care and attention you hope for in boutique hotels and really good B&B's, location is great. We stayed three days and missed it when we returned home to Boston which has not happed before. The rooms are spacious and beautffully appointed and the public spaces are elegant but intimte, there is a library with many fine books. Nick Russo

My wife and I, along with some friends, came to town to see Jackie Evancho at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall and decided on the Heathman, mainly due to proximity to the venue (right next door...literally). Our 2-night stay was the best hotel experience we've ever had.....charm, comfortable accommodations, ambiance, fine dining and customer service (with a smile) that didn't quit. Even a wonderful chocolate shop on the premises. And the experience didn't leave the pocketbook as empty as one might think....what a bargain. We'll, now, look for excuses to visit Portland again.

Room Tip: Looking for a great suite with all the comforts at home (actually...probably more...)? The Heathman...

Not as trendy as in the past, The Heathman Hotel still is classy. This was a perfect choice for a two night stay. There is a lot to do and see within a few blocks of the hotel. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. The staff is genuinely friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Many rooms face a decorated wall. This actually is not bad and the noise of a busy city are muffled.

It was very cold in Portland the weekend we stayed at the Heathman. It was great that it was centrally located so we didn't have to walk too far to Powell's Books and the History Museum (the museum was great!). We had tickets for the symphony, thank goodness, it was right next door! The front desk personnel (especially Cooper) were great to deal with. We loved our room, it was small but clean and well-equipped. We loved the French coffee press. We were a bit disappointed with the restaurant, we had lunch and breakfast there. The muffins were dry and the food was just OK, however, the service was great. I would definitely stay at the Heathman again but I might eat somewhere else.

Dear Linda G,

The cold, in Portland, took us all by surprise so early in the season! We are pleased to hear that you were able to take advantage of our proximity to so many local sights! Cooper is one of our newer Personal Concierge, but he is already a service star and one of our finest, so glad you got to experience his assistance.
We have to apologize that the food at the restaurant wasn't better received, we hope that you are willing to try us again next time you stay at the Heathman Hotel. Feel free to contact me directly for reservations next time you book, I'll make sure that all is in line for your stay!

Sincerely,

Krissy

I treated my sister-in-law to a three night stay at The Heathman for her birthday. We had a wonderful corner room with wonderful service. The staff was tremendously helpful in arranging flowers, chocolates and a birthday cake to surprise the birthday girl, and our dinner at the restaurant for the birthday supper was superb. I wouldn't change one detail of our weekend. Lovely hotel with superior service, attention to detail and the staff is friendly, not stuffy. It's the only place I'll stay in Portland.

Room Tip: The Renaissance King corner rooms have a lovely seating area, two full bathrooms, tea/coffee making...
