The hotel is very well located. The rooms are wonderfully appointed. The staff is very accommodating. Our first room was very small, and the bathroom very, very small. We were moved into another room of the same category that was half again as large and the bathroom was twice the size.
If size matters, and in this case it does, check it out before agreeing to the room.
Once that issue was resolved, and the staff was very helpful in resolving it, we had a wonderful stay. The breakfast in the hotel restaurant was really good too.

Room Tip: Ask if the room and bathroom are small.

The room was perfect. The attention to detail wonderful ... including champagne in our room and freshly ground coffee for the french press. Perfect downtown location as well. We'd recommend the Heathman to anyone.

Stayed at the Heathman recently on a pleasure trip to Portland and overall was pleased with the experience. Location is very good. Just a short walk to the lightrail, so easy to take from airport and walk to hotel, even with luggage. Also, walking distance to pretty much anything you might want to do in the downtown area. Staff was friendly and accomodating. Building is older and halls are kindof dark and narrow and in some places a bit worn, but rooms are respectable and well-priced.

My room was an inner room that overlooked the building next door (and maybe an alleyway? Couldn't see to the ground). While it was not scenic (though there was a mural painted on the next building), room had big windows and buildings were not so close that it blocked the light. So room was bright. Might have been nicer to overlook the street, but then, I can't say any of the streets were particularly scenic either (Not a criticism of Portland, most downtowns are not that much to look at) and it might have also been loud. So, I couldn't decide if this was a bad thing. Also, the little room with tub and toilet was about the smallest I'd ever seen - would have been hard to close the door, if you'd needed to. But these are minor quibbles. Overall, room was a good size and well-appointed. Room was also nice and quiet. No noise from either outside or from adjoining rooms or hall. Bed was very comfortable and L'Occitane amenities were lovely. I would stay here again if I traveled to the area.

Dear JosieCA,

We can't thank you enough for taking the time to write a review regarding your recent visit to the Heathman Hotel. The Hotel is located in such an ideal location, we are pleased you could take advantage of how walkable downtown Portland is!

The unique features of the Heathman do hold true to it's history, so it is commented that the building does reflect some 'older' features. We update and renovate as we can, but we are pleased you understood why we keep the shape and style of the past.

When you make it back to our fair city, we would be so happy to welcome you back! Thanks again for the great review!

The service is excellent and the lobby was beautiful. The rooms are not large and the bathroom was quite small, but there were lots of amenities (bathrobes, turn down service, bottles of water). There a many restaurants nearby and you can easily walk to downtown attractions like the Pearl District or the Chinese Gardens. I would definitely stay there again.

They couldn't have need nicer or more accommodating to this traveller who was temporarily disabled;from finding us the last accessible room, to retrieving a wheelchair and arranging our next visit. The room was elegant, with a wonderful easily accessible shower (unlike many which are labeled accessible and flood the bathroom )and the small touches such as the beautiful toiletries make this stand out. The breakfast was delicious , waiter and staff helpful and friendly rounding out an exceptional experience. We look forward to our return visit and our dinner there.
Everything a boutique hotel should be, great for business, and vacationing travelers .It deserves to be in the top rated hotels.

Thank you sitsis for the great review of the Heathman Hotel! We are so pleased that we were able to accommodate and assist you during this, most recent, stay. Although it is a necessity to offer ADA accessible rooms to our guests, we wanted to make sure to create them with the same style and efficiency of each other guest room. I’m glad that you found it so comfortable and easy to get around in!
We would look greatly forward to welcoming you back and having you, once again, enjoy our hotel and restaurant. Thanks again!

Visited at the end of August for four nights. Service was outstanding from the moment we arrived. Concierge Scott met us at the curb and checked us in. He showed us to our room and explained all of the room's features. The room was decorated nicely and was perfect for our needs. Our room had two bathrooms, which were spotless, like the rest of the room. A french press coffee maker and water heater was provided and I used it every day.

Scott was very helpful providing excellent suggestions for activities and restaurant recommendations. These included the Italian restaurant Pastini, pizza at Old Town Pizza and the Japanese restaurant Masu. He even had a great recommendation for ice cream at Salt and Straw. Scott was right on with every recommendation.

The hotel is in a great location downtown, within walking distance to many restaurants and shopping. We even walked to the weekend market for a great selection of local crafts. The fitness room is average with a pair of elliptical machines and treadmills, along with a resistance tower. But if you're in Portland you should just tie up your running shoes and take jog along the river or through one of the many parks.

My wife, mother in law and daughters enjoyed an afternoon tea at the Heathman, which they thoroughly enjoyed. The pastries were delicious and abundant.

The library and business center on the mezzanine were well done and comfortable. The evening turndown service was appreciated. The wi-fi worked well. No problems at all.

Donta the doorman, was great and also had good recommendations. Between him and Scott, we were well taken care of and never had any problems with customer service.

Overall, the hotel has great character and outstanding service. We'll definitely be back.

Room Tip: We had a handicapped accessible room, with two restrooms. One with shower only, the other with a tub...

Green Features: Like the rest of Portland, the rooms had separate receptacles for trash and recyclables.

great location; classic historic hotel; close to center/nightlife/ethnic restaurants. Rooms very comfortable although a bit dated. New room phone confusing: lots of buttons; hard to understand. valet service for car always prompt and always helpful.
