“The bed was heaven!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2008

I slept like a rock, this bed was heavenly. Staff was friendly and helpful. Location was perfect and priced right. Downfalls: $28 for overnight parking was the highest around, maid did not clean our room the second day (not that it really needed it), next door neighbors were partiers and came home at 2PM but could not find their keys. But I would definately stay there again!

Stayed October 2008

My husband booked this hotel on a whim as we were staying in Seattle and wanted to check out Portland. From the moment we arrived we received great service! Check in was very efficent and the bellman were talkative and asked us about Canada and our hometown, very nice and made the stay seem very personable. We were in a river view room which was brillant, and offered a great river view as well as a quaint little patio. The room was very clean and spacious (the bathroom is a bit tight though). We ordered room service for breakfast and dinner one evening and weren't too impressed with the food BUT the gentlemen who delivered the food were very nice! The one downside to this hotelwas we found the room a little tired, the walls were paper thin and we could hear our neighbour talking quite clearly, the toliet also had many issues. Not big deals though the staff was great, and the room was very clean that's whats important right?

  • Liked — Friendly service, clean room, location

This hotel is located in front of a city park with nice views of the river, park and city. Public transportation is just a couple of blocks away. The rooms are average. The lobby decor is simple but nice. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The parking fee is a little bit expensive. If you want to save some $$ park your car at any of the nearby parking garages (one or two blocks from the hotel).

Well, staying here is not inexpensive!! You have to pay 28 dollars a day plus tip the valet every time you want to get your car out! there are no free TV channels- all I wanted was to check the weather! There are very limited free programs( I could watch golf highlights or a few self-help excerpts) to view. The internet is pay to use, also the breakfast is over priced! Walk across the street and get some breakfast! It's worth the money you'll save. The room was fine. Bed was very soft- but my large husband had a hard time sleeping on the bed because for him there was no support! I loved the pillows~

Also, don't bother renting a car in Portland. The public transportation goes everywhere and you will go broke paying for parking!!!

  • Liked — The staff was all very friendly!
  • Disliked — Having to pay $28 dollars a day to park! No free TV, internet...

I have just had 6 nights here on a business trip, with the seminar in the hotel also.

Staff were great, friendly and helpful.

The location seemed on paper to be a distance from things, but was not.....walked most everywhere for great shopping and restaurants. Easy to find light-rail for free travel in the city and out to Lloyd Centre.

16th floor with waterfront views. Could not have been better.
King size bed with loads of pillows and pillow top layer, very comfy. AIrcon' at first a bit strange but was comfortable and worked well.

Large LCD screen TV, IPOD dock and alarm station, cordless phone and reasonable Internet fee per day.

And... in a great city with some lovely people.

My family of 4 just returned from the Portland Marriott Downtown. Wow. Can't say enough. From check in to check out, our stay was first rate. My standard for cleanliness is high and the Marriott did not disappoint - immaculate. No strange smells in our room. No dusty corners. Beds were divinely comfortable. Pool/jacuzzi and fitness room were very clean as well with cold water dispensers, clean towels and even complimentary headphones for workouts. Though the pool is small, the plentiful natural sunlight that fills the room gives it a clean, open and welcoming atmosphere. Incredible location gave us some of the "best of Portland." Our family took an evening stroll along the paved trail along the water and had dinner at the Marina Fish House - right on the water, excellent food, service and price. (Recommended by our extremely helpful concierge, Amma.) As we stayed only one night, we unfortunately didn't have the chance to explore more of the area. We had no idea that downtown Portland offered such a clean and scenic area with neat shops, cafes and even a small beach. We hope to make this our annual Labor Day getaway. Breakfast at Allies American Grill (in the Marriott) was abundant and good with all the basic breakfast fare. The highlight for us was the friendly chef at the omelet/waffle bar and a waitress who took great care of us.
The only glitch in our stay was that our room AC/fan was not working. When we called for help, Ike from engineering came and resolved the issue in a timely fashion. What's more, he authorized 2 free movies for our family to enjoy to compensate for the inconvenience. Even the lady at the gift shop was very kind and accommodating. Though some reviews I have read said that the rooms are small, our family enjoyed a basic room with 2 full beds on the 16th (top) floor. Space was adequate for us, especially since we did not spend much time in the room.
Though this Marriott is huge, we never felt like one of many guests. The kids wanted to swim more, so we were granted a later check out time (2pm). We received the highest quality of attention, service and accommodations at a very reasonable price. The location is beautiful - we would have stayed all week if our schedules permitted. A very memorable trip!
One more thing - we didn't park in the Marriott lot ($28/day). We parked our car on the street a few blocks away which was free over night until 8am, at which time we fed the meter (up to 3 hours at a time). Area is safe and street parking not to hard to find!
