“Loved Portland and The Marriott Waterfront”
Reviewed September 13, 2008

I have just had 6 nights here on a business trip, with the seminar in the hotel also.

Staff were great, friendly and helpful.

The location seemed on paper to be a distance from things, but was not.....walked most everywhere for great shopping and restaurants. Easy to find light-rail for free travel in the city and out to Lloyd Centre.

16th floor with waterfront views. Could not have been better.
King size bed with loads of pillows and pillow top layer, very comfy. AIrcon' at first a bit strange but was comfortable and worked well.

Large LCD screen TV, IPOD dock and alarm station, cordless phone and reasonable Internet fee per day.

And... in a great city with some lovely people.

My family of 4 just returned from the Portland Marriott Downtown. Wow. Can't say enough. From check in to check out, our stay was first rate. My standard for cleanliness is high and the Marriott did not disappoint - immaculate. No strange smells in our room. No dusty corners. Beds were divinely comfortable. Pool/jacuzzi and fitness room were very clean as well with cold water dispensers, clean towels and even complimentary headphones for workouts. Though the pool is small, the plentiful natural sunlight that fills the room gives it a clean, open and welcoming atmosphere. Incredible location gave us some of the "best of Portland." Our family took an evening stroll along the paved trail along the water and had dinner at the Marina Fish House - right on the water, excellent food, service and price. (Recommended by our extremely helpful concierge, Amma.) As we stayed only one night, we unfortunately didn't have the chance to explore more of the area. We had no idea that downtown Portland offered such a clean and scenic area with neat shops, cafes and even a small beach. We hope to make this our annual Labor Day getaway. Breakfast at Allies American Grill (in the Marriott) was abundant and good with all the basic breakfast fare. The highlight for us was the friendly chef at the omelet/waffle bar and a waitress who took great care of us.
The only glitch in our stay was that our room AC/fan was not working. When we called for help, Ike from engineering came and resolved the issue in a timely fashion. What's more, he authorized 2 free movies for our family to enjoy to compensate for the inconvenience. Even the lady at the gift shop was very kind and accommodating. Though some reviews I have read said that the rooms are small, our family enjoyed a basic room with 2 full beds on the 16th (top) floor. Space was adequate for us, especially since we did not spend much time in the room.
Though this Marriott is huge, we never felt like one of many guests. The kids wanted to swim more, so we were granted a later check out time (2pm). We received the highest quality of attention, service and accommodations at a very reasonable price. The location is beautiful - we would have stayed all week if our schedules permitted. A very memorable trip!
One more thing - we didn't park in the Marriott lot ($28/day). We parked our car on the street a few blocks away which was free over night until 8am, at which time we fed the meter (up to 3 hours at a time). Area is safe and street parking not to hard to find!

We enjoyed a pleasant stay at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront recently. The rooms were comfortable- we got our room on Princeline & were very pleased w/ the room & the view...the water view in the morning was beautiful. The staff was friendly & accommodating - they helped with every request & were good at giving driving directions too. We loved the large & sturdy umbrellas provided for hotel guests' use on the days that rained while we were there - that was a nice touch considering we had some walking downtown to do. Another nice touch was the water dispenser in the lobby that was flavored w/ a different fresh ingredient everyday (slices of cucumber, mint, oranges), refreshing & fun. Room service was nice, the food was delicious plus they also had some great healthier options on the menu. The one negative thing is that we stayed here around the time of the Rose Festival so there were some street closures/detours downtown & we had to feel our way back to the hotel more than once while driving...that's not really the hotel's fault necessarily but it would've been great to have maybe received alternate directions to the hotel in this instance. Overall, we were pleased with our stay & would definitely stay here again.

  • Liked — Location, helpful staff, overall comfort, umbrellas for use!
  • Disliked — Could've informed guests of Rose Fest street detours & how to deal with them

My boyfriend & I stayed here for the last two nights of a road trip around the Pacific Northwest, and had been looking forward to comfy, clean, quiet digs after a few nights camping and visiting with family. For a very reasonable price ($190/night through Expedia) we got a decent-sized room with a BIG, comfy king-sized bed... nice view of the river and Hawthorne Bridge (we hadn't even asked for water views).. and free valet parking (this was a deal that seemed exclusive to Expedia). The hotel was in a surprisingly quiet neighborhood, easy walking distance to the Portland Streetcar (only 2-3 blocks away) which provides VERY convenient access to other neighborhoods (Pearl District, NW 23rd) where we spent most of our time. This is a GREAT deal for people who want to explore the city, without staying in the middle of the hustle-and-bustle (e.g. street noise).
We were very happy here, and would gladly stay here again.

  • Liked — convenient & comfy & good price
  • Disliked — one good restaurant in the immediate surrounding area - not much else in the way of good dining though.

My husband and I were in town visiting our daughter and son-in-law and stayed at the waterfront Marriott for 5 nights. We had a great room with a view of the river and Mt. Hood off in the distance. The room was immaculate and very comfy. The staff went out of their way to meet our needs. The location was a plus as we did not rent a car but were able to walk to many places of interest.
I recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

  • Liked — friendliness, location and the concierge service
  • Disliked — fee for parking and computer use.

I stayed here for a conference in October. I am not sure how many people were at this conference, but I would bet it was a couple thousand. While my room was comfortable and nice (and came equipped with Bath and Body Works products), this hotel was clearly not ready for this conference. Only two of the four elevators were working, so it was very difficult to go any where fast, unless you took the stairs, and since I was on the 11th floor, that wasn't always an option. At one point the escalator was out of commission, too. It just seemed like they were not prepared for a large amount of people all needing to go to the same place at roughly the same time. It was frustrating.
But again, the room was nice, the staff were helpful, and once I discovered the super-secret service elevator, things weren't so bad.
