There are better places but Marriott makes you to feel pride. The service and personal attendance, if overlooked, you can say that ambiance is incomparable. You got to pay for first glass of water served in rooms but the complimentary tea/ coffee is unlimited.

On the whole you can opt for the place as substitute of Better place.

A pet peeve of mine is the fact that higher priced hotels charge for Internet in rooms. The Marriott wanted $19 per night for in room Internet and I feel this is unacceptable. It is an inconvenience to have to go to the lobby for Internet access without charge.

Other than that the hotel is well located and in good condition. We paid an attractive rate through travelzoo special so were not too upset at the $32 charge for parking.

Would I return? Not unless I got a deal, given the charges for Internet and parking.

My wife and I stayed 3 nights. Overall very satisfactory, friendly help, not directly by the City Center but an electric train was 2 blocks away. Also, two blocks away was $3 a night parking rather than the $32/night hotel parking price. This was because it was their weekend overnight rate so if you have an extra 2 minutes, you have extra cash. It was on the same street as the hotel, Naito parkway, past the Mercedes dealer. We had a riverview 6th floor, no noise and a nice view of the mountain at no extra charge. Just ask nicely for the riverview!

The hotel was pretty dated, some wear and tear, not dilipated but seems stuck in teh 1970s. A makeover is in order.

Best attribute is the location by the riverfront. My room had a great view of the Williamette river and Mt. Hood. Room was large too.

A downside of the location is that you hear noiuse from the Parkway at night, plus the A/C was loud (again, an old model).

Other issues: No safe in room. Plus, I was left 3 decaf coffe pods for coffee machine but no regular coffee (I know the Marriott family is Mormon but ....) I had to go to the lobby to get some.

From the time you pull up in your car you are greeted by the Valet to checking in a "Hello how are you today" from every direction. Check in was quick. We were given a map to help us find our way around. The room was very nice with a nice view of the river. Plenty of pillows. I received a email from the concierge before we left wanting to know if we would need extra pillows or towels. I thought that was an extra added touch. We had dinner downstairs as we were pressed for time. Their is a Starbucks next door, but the other restaurants are a mile and 1/2 down the road. You have to valet and it was 37$ a bit pricey. Dinner was good. We came back later for snacks at the bar and we returned the crab dip as it had an odd taste? The wings were the worst I have ever had. Other than the food our stay was nice.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the water

This Marriott hotel is a waterfront property and it is somewhat isolated. The area was died even during the Rose Festival, probably because I was there during a weekend? I always enjoy walking, but it was too much walk for me to restaurants and downtown shopping area. My room was small with tired appearance - the small bathroom door looks like an old motel. The sliding door of closet reminds me of a cheap apartment room. On the positive side, my room was clean, quiet, and everything was functional. If you only need a clean place to sleep, this place might work for you. But I expect more from a Marriott hotel and will not return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

Our family was descending on Portland for my niece's graduation. This Marriott is in downtown and right by the River place. One can take a nice walk in the park in the morning. There are many good restaurants within walking distance. The farmer's market is 15 minutes walking distance away. You can take the street car to the Pearl district and the shopping area, extremely convenient. The staff was great, professional and friendly. The room is nice. If you have a car, do not use the valet parking for overnight parking, that's $35. There are plenty of parking garage within 2 blocks that are much cheaper. They won't charge you $35 unless you park there overnight. I would highly recommend this Marriott to anyone. Look for specials, we stayed for $100 per night.
