Clean friendly and GREAT PRICE. Everything was nice clean staff was very knowledgeable of area. Walking distance to train. Everything close by.There was a draw back the price of parking but hey when you only pay 99.00 a night i guess it really doesnt matter.

Room Tip: I had a waterfront view .

I stayed here for a week for business, and the experience was great. Our room was clean and easy to maintain heat/cool without a rattling a/c unit. The staff was extremely gracious and helpful, even during a hectic check in/out for a large conference, where they exhibited real grace under pressure. The location is optimal-walking distance to shopping and food, and the light rail (which is cheap and convenient) has a stop only a block away. Parking is expensive, but there's a parking lot right behind the hotel that cost us $14/day (plus in/out charges). We had breakfast provided by our conference but using the hotel catering-and every day it was delicious and provided variety.

My wife and I visited Portland, OR, in mid-May 2013 for our son's wedding, staying at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront. We initially had a bit of "sticker shock" with the $32.00/day valet parking, but the overall service in the hotel made it worthwhile.

We were greeted by name in the TRUSS dining room. The breakfast omelet chef was spectacular; outstanding service. Beautiful view over the Willamet River, and great photo of Mount Hood at dawn.

Room Tip: Go high, with river view

This is a large Marriott convention hotel with a big lobby bar, escalators, and fast elevators to the highrise hotel towers. Some rooms overlook the Willamette River and park running through downtown Portland. The hotel is beautifully decorated and maintained. We found every space to be clean. All parking is valet; if you prefer to save $32 a day, you may choose one of many public parking facilities that surround the hotel. There is a convenience to using the valet though. Portland has many one-way streets downtown and many special lanes for public transit so it can be a little confusing. Rates can exceed $20/day at some public garages during the week as well. The hotel has at least one concierge floor. Front desk service is very efficient. We tried the restaurant for breakfast. The menu encourages you to choose the buffet which is average. The dining space looks more like a former meeting room than a restaurant. With many dining options in the downtown area, I'd suggest trying something with more Portland flavor unless you prefer the convenience of room service. Our guestroom was very comfortable and tastefully decorated in classic Marriott style. The hotel's location makes the entire downtown very walkable and I can't over-emphasize the beautiful views you can experience from upper floors.

Room Tip: Try an upper floor for the view. Some rooms overlook the Willamette River and park - great for peo...

I think the lobby looks nice, but isn't the most warm and inviting. Look to Kimpton properties in Portland if you want that.

My room faced the river over the main entrance area. It was a nice view and it didn't seem to require paying more (maybe good luck?). The room however was old and had that old room smell. It was one of those rooms where the 1/2 inch of carpet up against the walls has a gray haze on it (uncleaned dirt) and that extends to about 1 inch in the corners. The "gray edge" carpet syndrome is a quick way I judge the upkeep, age, and cleanliness of a room, and this room failed quite poorly on this test. The furniture was old and stained. Bathtub stained and chipped. There's a plunger next to the toilet..despite sign that says it is sanitized, this is just tacky.

Overall, this is to avoid unless you have to stay here for some reason (e.g., business associates staying here due to their rewards points, etc). It also doesn't have much of a family feeling, and seems to be mostly business people.

I'd put this way below the best places to stay in Portland.

Room Tip: Try to get river view.

The hotel is in a good downtown location. It sits across the street from the river. The room I stayed in had a nice view of Mt. Hood & the river, as well as a small balcony. The room was comfortable and clean, and the staff very accommodating and friendly. If you stay on the concierge level you breakfast included and the hors d'oeuvres & drinks throughout the day/evening. I would definitely stay here again when in Portland.

Room Tip: Stay on a high level fro better views
