This hotel is right across the street from the river in downtown Portland. The location is perfect - near everything downtown has to offer and right across from the walking/jogging/running path that goes for at least 3-4 miles along the river.

This is a large, older hotel but has been nicely renovated. The rooms are small, but nicely decorated and comfortable. Get a river view if at all possible.

There is only valet parking, so be prepared for that. The valet attendants were courteous and prompt.

Portland, Oregon is a very special place for me. I make it a point to visit it every 3 months to relax, rejuvenate and refresh from all the crazy aspects of my daily life.

My favorite place to stay when I am in Portland is the Marriott Waterfront. You get to enjoy the downtown life on the river shores, marina, restaurants and the gorgeous view of the mountains.

You are always greeted by smiling faces opening the door for you when you arrive at the hotel. Greeted warmly and assistance offered. The front desk welcomes you with great knowledge of the area as they check you in their brand new remodeled facility. The concierge is ready to share all the hot spots of Portland that you must experience.

The rooms are crisp, clean and very relaxing. The bed is so comfortable and allows you to sleep in peace with the all white linens and duvet. Gone with the old dirty floral comforters that make you wonder what is hiding within the print. The room is handsomely furnished with flat screen TV.

If you are not a member, you must make sure to be one so you could stay at the concierge floor so you could be spoiled with all the extras one could only dream of. All the breakfast, drinks, snacks, fruits, desserts, appetizers and a personal concierge to get you whatever you want and need. Call the hotel for more information or schedule of the concierge floor.

I made the Portland Marriott Waterfront my home in Portland where I could relax after enjoying my daily routine around Portland.

Booked the day before my trip, got the room for $50 (plus tax). Arrived at around rush hour, valet parking was double-parked in street, so I proceeded to drive around the block, and saw a parking garage entrance "$5 for all night", which beat the $24 valet parking. We left at 7:30 the next morning($5 till 6am, and $1.40 for each addt'l hour), so parking cost $8.75 for the whole night.

We parked, and it was a 4 minute walk to the hotel.

The beds had pillowtops, and were very comfy. Heat was nice on a night when it snowed in the hills, and the water was nice and hot for a bath that evening and again in the morning.

Only one thing unpleasant... made coffee, and there was 2 packets of sugar, and 2 packets of artificial sweetner. Not good for those of us with a sweet tooth.

Would, and do plan to stay here again in the future.

This review is written by a business traveler who typically frequents Marriott and Hilton-chain hotels. This review is based on a 1-night stay in October 2007.

The hotel meets or exceeds the quality one typically finds in a full-Marriott property.

Pros:
- decent views available (ask for it when booking or check-in).
- Concierge is excellent.
- recent renovation includes new beds and LCD TVs, etc.
- good choice for those wanting to be close to downtown shopping / restaurants / river.

Opportunities for improvement:
- Concierge Lounge not open on weekends (and no complimentary breakfasts are offered to Gold and Platnium Marriott Rewards members).
- small bathrooms for the price you pay.
- clearly an old hotel that was renovated; some rooms are odd-shaped.

Ultimately, I would give the other full-Marriott downtown consideration before booking this one. The new Residence Inn nearby may also be a much better bet for your money.

Very comfortable, good service and everything worked. Outstanding view over the river. Short walking distance to main downtown area. A conference of veterinarians (all in high spirits and wearing stetsons for some reason) was in progress but this did not diminish the service on offer or our enjoyment of the stay.

Got a good rate which made the one night stay a very good value; very friendly staff--particularly the valet staff. Smallish room but view made up for it. Just walk to the waterfront restaurants or uphill to Broadway restaurants. Nice pool/exercise room; waterfront walk/run path.

Excellent location in downtown near shops and public transpo (1 block from airport train stop). Average rooms, kinda on the loud side (noise from the hallways, doors slamming, etc.). NIce views from our 17th floor room. Polite staff. No mini bar in room. Beds comfortable, but not the best I've had. Overall, good choice for the money.
