I'm staying at the Shilo Inn right now and disappointed to find out their "high speed wireless in every room" was a bit optimistic. Evidently only part of the motel has been outfitted with decent wireless signal and my corner room (107) has sporadic signal and then it's very weak at best. I'm working at a Starbucks now while waiting for them to move me to a room with "better signal". As for the other aspects, fairly average motel in a good central location. First saw the Shilo Rose Garden when I got off the freeway and was 'wow', only to realize it was the wrong Shilo, heh heh.

Let me say that I made a mistake in my reservations. Thought I had reserved a room at the Shilo Inn Rose Garden. However, the reservation was made at the Shilo Inn Convention Center. After, I checked in, I realized the mistake. It was too late to cancel for the night. However, the manager was very accomondating in cancelling for the 2nd night. He even allowed me to have a late check out the next day since, I was unable to check into the other hotel until later.
Also, I had some trouble with my computer, which he patiently helped figure out the problem. Due to the helpfulness in this situation, I can recommend this hotel. Good location for reasonable rates.

Let me start out this review by stating that I am usually a "3-star-or-better" traveler, so I have certain biases. I decided on a lark to spend the night in Portland, and wanted to do it on the cheap. So I got one of those travel coupon books at a rest stop, and it happened to have a coupon for this Shilo Inn for only $49+tax per night.

I expected to find a three-story building with interior corridors and perhaps a small pool, like the Shilo Inns I noticed for years along the Interstate. I was disappointed to find this Shilo Inn to be a very bare-bones, exterior-corridor motel in a somewhat seedy locale. It was a bit unsettling to check in and see a "No Refunds" sign at the front desk.

The room was small. It had newer, albeit poorly-constructed furniture. The phone was missing the template that shows the hotel's phone number and room number, and there was no other literature to be found in the room. There always seemed to be a fine mist on top of the toilet seat. The pillows were small, flat and generally unappealing. The free continental breakfast ended at 9, before I even woke up on Sunday morning.

On the plus side, parking was free and the TV had a full cable lineup. And as mentioned, you have easy MAX light rail access. But in the end, I was sort of creeped out by this place--in the middle of a big city, especially, I like to have interior hallways and more of a visible security presence. From then on, I either paid more for better hotels or used ultra-discount Web sites to get into 3-star properties for about the same price or a little more.

My wife and I went to Portland, Or, to spend our 2nd anniversary, and we happen to stay at Shilo Inn Convention Center, we made a research to find out what this hotel was about, and all the reviews were fine, but I think this hotel diserves more than an OK review. It´s EXCELLENT LOCATED, it´s super clean, and the staff is very friendly, you have wireless internet for free, and the MAX station (local metro) is one block ahead, and it´s located in the Fareless square, so you won´t spend money in your transportation, just 5 minutes from downtown, 4 blocks to the great Lloyd Center Mall, it´s just perfect, and the prices??? just what you are suposed to pay, not a penny more... you have also a fridge and a microwave, so come and enjoy Portland in this great hotel.

We go to the Pacific Northwest annually to visit family, decided to stay here this year since it is more centrally located in Portland. I must say, the location is PERFECT. It's quiet too. The price is very inexpensive considering the location. You are right near Lloyd Center area. This isn't a downtown location, but is a quick drive to downtown if you are interested in going there. This motel is right near the Max (electric cross-town train) tracks, but that isn't bothersome at all.
The train is rather silent. There is also free parking right out front of your room, this in itself at this location is a dream come true.
Some drawbacks; the rooms are kinda old, beds are uncomfortable, the spanish tiles on the bathroom floor are kinda crumbly and dirty looking, and the continental breakfast consists of a few pre-packaged muffins. But for the price and location, you really cannot complain.
It's functional. If you want something laddy-da or comfy, go elsewhere - if you want to spend a few nights and save some money in a good location - stay here.
