“Loved this Portland Bed And Breakfast Home”
Reviewed June 18, 2006

We stayed for two nights at the Portland White House. Our stay could not have been more enjoyable. We were celebrating a special occasion and the innkeepers insured the occasion was one we would always remember. The bed was dreamy. They had beautifully furnished the home in time period surroundings and yet added touches such as flat screen TVs and remote control radios. Each room had its own control for air and heat. The breakfast was tasty and beautifully served in a candlelight setting. In the afternoon cookie made great treats and of course they were home made from Grandma's recipe. The home grounds were very relaxing. We spent each evening sitting on the patio with a bottle of wine listening to the fountain and enjoying the company of other happy guests. Very relaxing. Convenient location for exploring the beautiful historic homes of Portland. Many thanks to these fine gentlemen who insured this home was preserved for the future generations. Top notch stay all the way around.

The owners, Lanning and Steve, and the several staff I met, including Caleb, the manager, and Shawn the cook, were all very friendly, courteous, and helpful; any information or service I requested was quickly provided.

Warm cookies in the afternoon, great coffee in the morning, and daily newspaper at the door each morning nicely complemented the gracious interior design and furnishings: think Meissen museum.

On my first ever visit to Portland, I was impressed with the 24/7 classical FM music, and green, clean city, free of litter and graffiti and loud car radios. Portland’s White House Bed and Breakfast was the perfect ‘home’ to everywhere I needed to go for receptions, wedding, shopping, and dining.

Portland’s White House Bed and Breakfast is an extremely well built and maintained grand home; one cannot hear anything from other rooms; the neighborhood is very quiet. As a B&B owner, it was a pleasure to experience Lanning and Steve's B&B.

We just spent a wonderful 39th wedding anniversary at Portland's special early Twentieth Century "White House", an elligant early 1900's manse restored to excellence by Steve and Lanning and crew who pamper and feed your eyes as well as excite your palate. We have stayed at the WH several times, each time enjoying a different room. Some of the rooms have been remodeled and redecorated since we last enjoyed them. Each time, the qualify has increased. The great formal living room makes one feel as if he were living in the large turn-of-the-century home. The large grand priano welcomes your playing it and the warm home-baked cookies and chocolates invite you to munch. We love this place and have recommended it to friends and relatives and try to go there ourselves at least once a year. The breakfasts are sumptuous and the conversation around the large dining table causes us to linger over rich coffee and special breakfasts with new aquaintences. We have stayed in many other B&B's, but the WH is the standard by which we judge all others. Great work Lanning and Steve! Dick and Dianne Beaudry, Maple Valley, Washington

My husband and I just recently spent a 4 night stay at the Portland White House for Memorial Day weekend. It was definitely an excellent choice. The house is lovely and impeccably maintained, but what really made the stay was the hospitality of Lanning and Steve and their wonderful staff. They are extremely helpful and friendly. We got several good recommendations on restaurants and sightseeing activities. Lanning even loaned us an Oregon map to use on our day trips to Mt Hood and the Oregon coast.

Every morning you are greeted with a deliciously prepared breakfast (with second and third helpings if you like), top-notch coffee, and freshly squeezed juices. They even offered up Mimosas or Bloody Marys if you wanted. To top it off, you are greeted in your room with delicious cookies and truffles each evening.

Some additional nice touches - bottled water in the room, robes, flat screen tv, super comfy feather top beds, wifi access, and quiet rooms

I would highly recommend a stay at the Portland White House for leisure or business travel. It is definitely much nicer and more unique than any boutique or chain hotel.

Finally! We finally found a place that met our high standards. It's not often that my husband and I are able to spend an hour together let alone 48 hours without our toddler. So we had high hopes for The White House Inn to be the perfect place for us to spend that rare romantic weekend away. Innkeepers Lanning, Steve and team exceeded our expectations. We were greeted with a warm welcome from Steve, shown our rooms, and offered a beverage or anything else we could possibly need. We stayed in the Baron's room which I highly recommend. One could get lost in the luxurious king sized bed. The room is filled with warm shades of navy and gold. It has walls full of beautiful original windows that open easily to let in the fresh air. The bathroom is like stepping back in time with the original tile work and large clawfoot tub. The products are from London and the embordered towels add to the elegance. I can't forget to mention the homemade cookies (huge cookies) and delicious chocolates. You won't find a better breakfast served in Portland, I promise. What we really enjoyed however was the warmth and genuine kindness from the owners of the magnificient white home . Lanning and Steve make you feel like your part of the family. They seem to genuinly enjoy answering questions (usually the same day after day) of their home, how they met, their family, and their amazing collection of fine antiques. As much as I missed my child, I just wanted to stay one more day--one more day to enjoy my husband's company, one more day to explore this luxury home and one more day to enjoy Lanning and Steve's magnetic personalities. We hope to return this autumn. You won't regret staying at Portland's White House. p.s. You'll fall in love with the white Scottish Terrier named "Prescott" He helps make this Inn a home!

Portland's White House was a lovely B&B. Lanning, the innkeeper, owns the home, and it is just gorgeous - very opulent, posh, and swish, to throw just a few adjectives out there! We were pleased to have been upgraded upon our arrival, however, the reception when we arrived was a bit chilly. We guessed that the innkeeper must have been busy with other things, and in some ways we really appreciated not being given a long tour of every detail of the B&B. In another way, we ended up feeling somewhat unwelcomed. We hadn't been to Portland before, and we could have used a few tips on restaurants and the like, which we received, but only after going out on a limb and asking, which for some reason felt awkward.

Nevertheless, we were extremely happy with our stay. The bed was incredible - completely heavenly. The chocolates and cookies were just delicious. The neighborhood is so beautiful - we took a walk all around and had a wonderful time appreciating the architecture. The breakfast was fabulous, and Lanning made a wonderful breakfast host. At breakfast, the guests were seated at a long table all together. I'm usually a more solitary breakfast person, so I tend to kind of dread this arrangement, however, Lanning helped make the atmosphere fun, casual, and open. We ended up having a great time at breakfast chatting with the other guests.

We would highly recommend Portland's White House - just check your sensitivities at the door and don't be afraid to ask for what you need!

The opulence of the bed and breakfast begins visually, the beautiful antiques and furniture-table linens, breakfast service, and the meticulously cared for gardens. The visual feast is topped off as you slide your tired vacation-worn body into the softest sheets on earth. The fabrics, would teach the "heavenly bed" folks some new lessons. Lanning, the owner, exudes the friendliness of his southern heritage, and you feel as if you have known him all of your life. Lanning is the head chef for breakfast, and is supported by a friendly competent staff-Sean, Jason, Rena, Kailib. The breakfast is deserving of the "gourmet" descriptor-the whitehouse is beautiful-the experience worthy of a return visit. Thanks so much, we'll be back.
