I can't understand how this hotel gets decent reviews. We are Best Western loyalists and this is by far the worst one we have ever stayed in. We usually stay in dog friendly rooms and our room needed to be fumigated. There were stains all over the carpeting and the room smelled of wet dog. The rooms and hotel overall are very outdated as well. To top it all off, we went to the complimentary breakfast this morning and the hostess let nearly every station of the breakfast run out of food (including the coffee) - and she was rude as well - all at 8:00 a.m. this morning. The hotel also states that it is "in Portland." While it is technically in the city, you are about 20 mins from downtown. Given our experience, we won't be back.

Room Tip: Stay at other Best Westerns in the area.

After airline delays, almost missing a connecting flight, further delays and re-routing due to weather, our plane finally landed 3 hours late. Fortunately, we had guaranteed reservations, so called the inn to see if the shuttle was still running. It was! Shuttle driver and desk staff were prompt, gracious, and answered our weary questions. The room was clean, spacious and nice, with a balcony overlooking the courtyard. How nice to have morning coffee on the balcony after a comfortable night's sleep! Breakfast was standard for this kind of a facility---no complaints. Although location was not close to Portland activities, there was a decent restaurant right next door to the Inn. This was not a problem for us, since we were picked up by family the next day to begin our vacation tour.

Would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony overlooking the courtyard. Very relaxing to sit out there.

I wish we had more time in this hotel. It has a great courtyard with a pool and nice vegetation. There was a continental breakfast for us at 4am when we left. I expect the full breakfast would have been nice too. Our room was larger than most, had a lovely balcony, a very comfortable bed and furnishings including a kitchen area. Highly recommend for a quiet night near the airport.

I had booked a Quality Inn near the airport and upon arrival I did not care for the appearance. I then cancelled my reservation and proceeded to the Best Wester Pony Soldier Inn and was greeted by Jack the front desk attendant. He was very helpful and courteous. He suggested that I choose where to have dinner then return my car to the airport and that he would send someone to pick me up. That way I did not have to deal with the car return in the morning before my flight. His suggestion was a great idea and was much easier than returning the car early morning before the flight. All the best wester I have stayed at recently were great and recommended.

This is the best hotel near an airport I have ever stayed in. I stayed there because of an early flight and I got a good rate on the room. The Lobby is very attractive. The people behind the desk were very helpful. When I went into my room, was was amazed at how nice it looked. They have rearranged the room so that it doesn't just look like every other hotel room in a chain. Ther are nice little touches around the room such as an easy to get to dimmer lignt right by the bed. The courtyard is completely surrounded by rooms, so even a first floor room for a woman traveling alone felt safe. There are balconies on the inside rooms looking over a very attactive pool and hot tub area. The put out a light breakfast for those leaving after 4 AM, which was a big help. There is a shuttle that early as well. They have a full breakfast later, but I didn't get to stay for it. I went into downtown Portland easily on the light rail. The walk back to the hotel was easy and safe, but the people behind the desk said to call them if I felt as if I didn't want to walk back and they would come get me. They were great!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the courtyard. Upstairs will have a balcony, downstairs a patio.

We were here for two nights while in the Portland area, good location if you don't want to be downtown, near airport and freeway to the Columbia River area. All of the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, answering all questions about the area, public transit, restaurants and directions. They made sure that you understood their directions and had some helpful maps too. The owners/managers seemed to spend time training their staff and hiring outgoing people persons. The breakfast was OK to good, scrambled microwave eggs on day two not a good idea, juice, coffee (always on), fruit, yogurt, waffles (whipped cream was a nice touch) toast, bagels pastries..... the breakfast room is large and they could get a few more tables in the space, the solo breakfast attendant had a hard time keeping up with demand during peak times for such a large hotel, she did her best to keep up. There is a computer and printer, keys on keyboard stick, needs to be replaced, they offer a shuttle to the airport if needed, it seemed like they were very quick to respond to people needing this service. We chose this hotel because it was a Best Western and we would stay here again if in the area and it was still a Best Western. Thanks.
