“Yes, like your living room.”
Reviewed June 2, 2014

We went to a late movie here and it was so nice to have a large chair to relax in while drinking a beer! There are only about 25 chairs in each theater, and they are assigned, but the only bad ones might be up close. They show a few Hollywood type movies, but mostly the independent and foreign ones that are so hard to find where we live in SoCal.

“Fun outing”
Reviewed May 30, 2014

We love to go to the Living Room Theater. We like that we can choose our seat. It is best to avoid the first row, but the theaters are small and the back seats are OK. We love that the food is good at reasonable prices. They also have a great collection of indie films that don't play other places. The best way to enjoy the movie is show up early to pick your seat, then have a bite to eat or a drink in the comfortable restaurant while you wait for the movie to begin.

“Best of its type”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

This is the best upscale movie theater I've visited. They serve excellent food and drinks, provide comfortable seating in small theaters, and they consistently show quirky, interesting films. Parking is kind of challenging, but mass transit access is great.

“Convenient location and good movies”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

This theater shows great independent films and has a good value on Monday and Tuesday evenings when it's just $5. Otherwise, it's a little pricey, but it's upscale and you choose your seat when you purchase your tickets. There are food and drinks, but it's a bit slow so go early.

“Drink and Dine with Art House Films”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

The Living Room Theater is just south of Powell's Books on SW 10th in what is now developing as the West End with new restaurants, shops and night clubs in a formerly quiet area of downtown Portland. Many of the critically-rated films mentioned in the New York Times play here along with more standard fare. Right now in mid-May 2014, the films include "the German Doctor," "the Other Woman," "Dancing in Jaffa," "The Galapagos Affair," and "Watermark." The great thing is that you can get good pours of wine, local craft beer and even cocktails along with simple lunch and dinner items such as sandwiches, pizza, pasta and salads plus goodies for the sweet tooth. Seating is luxurious and you can have your dinner while watching the film, with no worries about spilling on someone in the next seat or the seat in front of you -- there is a lot of room and small tables available. This theater has been in operation for some time, so it is a formula that works for many, including us.
