The rich, black granite bar is a perfect spot for one of our delicious signature cocktails, many made with our own house-infused spirits. Both the sixty-inch and forty-inch high-definition televisions are the perfect place to watch your favorite sporting events while you sit back and relax. Our entire food menu is served throughout the day at the most comfortable bar in downtown Portland. Our location, the historic Waldo Building, built in 1886, is easily visible on one of the most traveled corners in Downtown Portland at the intersection of SW Washington Street and 2nd Avenue, just feet away from great shopping at Pioneer Place, the waterfront, mass transit and some of the most visited attractions in downtown. So plan something special and meet your friends, family, and colleagues at Mama Mia Trattoria. Our old school Italian-American soul food, like that offered at the best restaurants in "Little Italy's" across the United States, will exceed your expectations. “Great Happy Hour!”
Reviewed October 24, 2013

We walked by this after a long day of meetings. We were enticed by the $2, $3, $4 specials. I had a great bowl of minestrone soup: $2, Fried Zucchini: $3 and a HUGE meatball with marina sauce $3. All of the food was nicely seasoned and very good given large number of people in the lounge.

House wine, selected beers and well drinks were $4. I had my traditional vodka cranberry and I was a happy camper! Really...dinner and drinks for less than $20...how can you go wrong!

“Wonderful Neighborhood Italian Restaurant”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

Read the T.A. reviews of local downtown Portland Italian restaurants then checked the menus and found Mama Mia's featured Sunday Gravy. As I had never had it, now was my opportunity and I was glad I went. Wonderfully flavorful and filling, I now understand why it was mentioned so often in The Sopranos! My wife loved the Chicken Parmigiana, the wine was delightful and the staff was attentive and friendly - a great place for a Sunday dinner.

“Just OK”
Reviewed October 18, 2013 via mobile

We went for happy hour last night, it was just ok, the deep fried zuchinni was delicious but everything else we ordered was more a take it or leave it. The bartender Arnold was the best, very nice & attentive- he would be the reason my husband & I would return, it was our first time here & he explained the menu to us very well, along with recommendations.

“Mama Mia Trattoria a nice surprise!”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

Dined at Mama Mia's last night and enjoyed a delicious meal in a beautiful restaurant with warm, friendly waitstaff.
We started off with fried zucchini, house made garlic bread, and calamari. Everything was delicious and we were full before our entrees came to the table. This is a place where you can sit and have a leisurely meal and not feel like they are trying to rush you out the door,THANK YOU!
Our main course was exceptional. We had eggplant Parmesan, a pasta dish with homemade meatballs, sausage, and pork with "grandma's gravy", a long simmered tomato meat sauce. Almost seemed like grandma was right in the kitchen cooking away. Lastly a lasagna special with mushrooms, chicken, and a béchamel sauce that was big enough to feed 2-3 people.
This was a gem of a find and we will go back to the next time we visit Portland.

“Nice place, good service, decent price but I would not order pasta”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

We had dinner at Mama Mia for my daughters birthday 10/5/13. We started with garlic bread and fried zucchini - both we're good - the whIte sauce with the zucchini was wonderful but they don't give you enough (ask for more when you order). Then we had a large chopped salad which was plenty for the three of us.

By the time we finished this portion of the meal we could have had a small desert and called it a perfect meal but we had ordered two pasta dishes - fettuccini Alfredo with chicken and a special lasagna. The portions were good but the taste was a little disappointing. Following dinner they brought my daughter a piece of amerreto cheese cake that was delicious. We did not have any drinks - just water.

The price was $73 before tip and they credited the dessert ($7) so we felt it was reasonable for the meal we had. The ambiance is typical for a nice Italian restaurant. It was comfortable and the service was very good.

This is a solid place and I would certainly go back and try something else if I wanted Italian and lived here or traveled here frequently. This is not a restaurant I would rush back to for a second meal since the city is overflowing with places for us to try. It definately gets a thumbs up from this contributor.
