Old and tired. 1. bathroom fixture problem 2. torn curtain 3. construction right outside my window 4. old beat up furniture 5. holes in the wall 6. no wifi, only in specific wings, apparently not mine 7. probably the worst mattress I have ever had in a hotel room, old school, bouncy, bad.

I didn't rate the restaurant. They did give a tasty cookie on check in.

Bottom line, I won't be back.

I would definitely recommend University Place on the campus of Portland State University as a very good economical and convenient place to stay in Portland. Rooms were nice, staff was excellent, walking distance to river, downtown center, pubic transportation very close, car rental onsite, and breakfast included.

University Place is very convenient for a vacation in Portland. Close to the waterfront and good restaurants. Also, very close to Portland University. We enjoyed our stay but the service as average. The room was a little noisy so was hard to sleep.

We have stayed at University Place on several occasions in the past, so knew not to expect a 5 star hotel. Booked a "deluxe" room since there was indication these rooms had been updated. Don't waste your money on a "deluxe" room. The only differences compared to a regular room are a flat screen tv, Keurig(sp?) coffee maker, microwave/refrigerator, and newer bed coverings. The furniture is still the same and no signs of new paint, carpet, etc. We went to our room after checking in only to find the deluxe room was smaller than the regular room we had stayed in the last time we were there. The furniture was broken in places, the mattresses were worn out (sinking in the the middle), and to top it all off there was a Doritoes bag left on the floor from the previous occupants. When I went to call the front desk I couldn't use the phone because it wasn't even plugged into a jack. We were moved to another "deluxe" room which was slightly better (cleaner than the first, but still no different than a regular room), but lacked some of the promised "deluxe" amenties like a refrigerator and microwave. The front desk staff was friendly for the most part, however the gentlemen who switched the rooms for us made a snide comment to the two people he was chatting with at the counter when I asked for a refrigerator and microwave to be brought to the room. With the exception of the lobby, the entire place needs a good thorough cleaning. I would prefer to give the hotel this feedback direct, but they don't offer an option to leave a comment on their website. Needless to say, very dissappointed in the quality and service at the University Place and we won't be staying there ever again.

The room was, well, roomy. It had a chair to hang out in and a chair and desk to work at. The staff at the front desk were pleasant and helpful if not always knowledgable about the area. It was a great value considering the competition. If you want to feel like you are downtown, this is not the place, however it is not in the boondocks either. There is very good public transportation nearby and I walked downtown (although, I'm a walker). The hotel is very close to a food-truck area and a couple of university bars. I enjoyed staying here.

Feces on the Shower curtain!
After a night of listening to loud partying (the rooms are not sound proof at all!), I got in the shower, and there was feces on the shower curtain. This is clearly not a clean hotel. There were several other cleanliness problems, but I have never been so disgusted in my life.

I would never, ever stay at this hotel again.

What a rip off...pay extra for deluxe room and this is what we got....THE TOILET SEAT WAS DIRTY,to the point that we have to wipe it with one of the towels...the tv stations were all fuzzy, but we were told @ the front desk that it was because interference, it just happen to be just in our room...the matress were extremily hard making imposible to sleep @ nite...the sliding door wasnt closing all the way, making the room freezing, and because that, we have to keep the room heater temperature very hight...the complementary breakfast, WAS OVER @ 9:00...even in the weekends..and thanks to lack of good sleep, we never make it on time...so i had to spend money somewhere else...we complain to the front desk about the ridicules time, and they told us that many people had complain to them but there manager hasn't done anything about it...i was expecting from this people to give a discount for having to deal with all this crap, especially the dirty toilet...but nothing...over all, this is by far, the worst hotel that i had ever stay, and my recomendation to you is to STAY AWAY!!!
