“Some of the best movies in town are shown here”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2014

Portland's Cinema 21 is one of the best deals in NW Portland. The cinema itself is quite old so you're not going to get any fancy chairs or flashy interiors. But this is the place where you get to see some of the best new, independent, arthouse, and foreign films in the Pacific Northwest. It's also located in a popular part of town so there are many bars and restaurants near by. The parking can be a bit tricky but if you park a bit east, toward the 405 the parking is not an issue.

“Great Independent Movie Theater”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2013

This movie house has been around for years, and recently added 2 new screens with improved sound. They feature independent films that are interesting and timely. At times, they will have classic older films. Very reasonable. Parking on the street (NW 21st).

“Surprise!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2013

This old popular theatre which shows interesting international, intellectual, art nouveau, sometimes pre-release films has added two new theaters!! You need to be alert to what is showing - sometimes the line to get in is more than a block long. Located in a part of town near great shopping and a plethora of restuarants and bars. Fun, stimulating, inexpensive, experience not to be missed.

“Fun Times”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 5, 2013

I went here for the 4th Anniversary screening of The Room, that modern classic of horrible filmmaking. This is a nice theater. Takes me back to my childhood and some of the theaters we used to frequent. The event was fun (although due to technical difficulties it got started about 30 minutes late.)

“Really nice cinema”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2013

My friends and I saw Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing here.
It's located in a great area with pubs and atmosphere.
The theater is old but comfortable.
All in all, a very good experience.
